Procedures
12Trailer Brake Adjustment adjustment
⚠ Wear safety glasses when removing or installing force fitted parts.
Tools: Screwdriver or standard adjusting tool, Jack stands
- Place trailer on jack stands on secure level ground.
- Check the wheel and drum for free rotation.
- Remove adjusting hole cover from the adjusting slot at bottom of backing plate.
- Rotate the star wheel of the adjuster to expand the brake shoes.
- Adjust until lining pressed against drum makes wheel difficult to turn.
- Rotate star wheel opposite direction until wheel rotates freely with slight lining drag.
- Replace adjusting hole cover and lower trailer to ground; repeat on remaining brakes.
Wheel Lug Nut Tightening Sequence adjustment
⚠ NEVER use a pneumatic air gun to tighten wheel lug nuts.
Tools: Torque wrench
- Start all wheel lug nuts by hand.
- Torque all lug nuts in sequence; do not torque all the way down.
- Tighten each lug nut in 3 separate passes as defined by Table 18.
- After first road use, retorque all lug nuts in sequence.
- Check all wheel lug nuts periodically.
3Ø-240V UVWO Terminal Output Connection installation
⚠ Never place jumper plates on the voltage change-over board while the generator is in operation.
- Jumper the voltage change-over board for 240V operation.
- Connect the load wires to the UVWO terminals.
- Turn voltage regulator knob clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease voltage.
3Ø-480V UVWO Terminal Output Connection installation
⚠ Never place jumper plates on the voltage change-over board while the generator is in operation.
- Jumper the voltage change-over board for 480V operation.
- Use 6 jumper plates in 3 different positions; every jumper plate must be used.
- Connect the load wires to the UVWO terminals.
Generator Grounding installation
⚠ Consult a licensed electrician before connecting generator to a building's electrical system.
- Use copper 10 AWG (5.3 mm2) or larger ground wire.
- Use aluminum 8 AWG (8.4 mm2) or larger ground wire.
- Connect ground cable between lock washer and nut on generator.
- Tighten nut fully and connect other end to earth ground.
- Bury earth ground rod minimum 8 ft into ground (NEC 250-52(c)).
Adding Coolant maintenance
⚠ Removing the radiator cap while the engine is hot will cause boiling water to gush out, causing severe scalding.
- Add coolant day-to-day from the recovery tank.
- Do not remove the radiator cap until the unit has completely cooled.
- Keep coolant level in recovery tank between H and L markings.
Battery Cable Installation maintenance
⚠ Incorrect battery cable connection will cause electrical damage to the generator.
- Place MPEC control switch in OFF/RESET position before connecting battery.
- Connect red cable to positive battery terminal.
- Connect black cable to negative battery terminal.
- Apply battery terminal treatment compound around both terminals.
- Disconnect negative terminal FIRST and reconnect negative terminal LAST.
Cleaning the Fuel Strainer maintenance
- Remove dust or water in the strainer cap and wash it in gasoline.
- Securely fasten the fuel strainer cap so fuel will not leak.
- Check the fuel strainer every 200 hours or once a month.
Cleaning the Radiator maintenance
⚠ Cleaning inside the machine is dangerous; clean only with engine off and negative battery terminal disconnected.
Tools: Compressed air
- Turn engine off and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Periodically clean radiator fins with compressed air.
Engine Oil Check and Fill maintenance
⚠ Removing the oil drain plug while the engine is hot can cause hot oil to gush out.
- Make sure the generator is level.
- Verify oil level is between the two notches on the dipstick.
- If oil is not clean, drain by removing the oil drain plug; oil should be warm.
- Refill crankcase through filler hole with specified oil; do not overfill.
Fan Belt Inspection and Tension maintenance
⚠ Never place hands near the belts or fan while the generator set is running.
- Inspect the fan belt for damage and wear.
- Adjust belt in accordance with the VOLVO Engine Owner's Manual.
- Belt tension is proper if it bends 10 to 15 mm when depressed with the thumb.
Flushing Out Radiator and Replacing Coolant maintenance
⚠ Allow engine to cool when flushing radiator; hot coolant can cause severe burns.
⚠ DO NOT remove radiator cap until unit has completely cooled.
- Open both cocks at crankcase side and lower radiator and drain coolant.
- Open radiator cap while draining.
- Remove the overflow tank and drain it.
- Check hoses for softening and kinks; check clamps for leakage.
- Flush radiator with clean tap water until rust and dirt are removed.
- Do not clean radiator core with objects such as a screwdriver.
- Tighten both cocks and replace the overflow tank.
- Replace with coolant recommended by engine manufacturer and close cap tightly.
