Procedures
12Check fuel solenoid valve diagnostic
- Locate fuel solenoid valve in front of injection pump.
- Remove small retention screw and plug from valve briefly while operating.
- Replace plug immediately; motor should react by revving high.
- If motor does not react sharply, solenoid valve may be faulty.
Insulation test diagnostic
Tools: voltmeter
- Switch off all on-board electrical devices.
- Start the generator.
- Measure AC voltage with voltmeter between generator housing and AC-Control box.
- Measure AC voltage between generator housing and ground.
- Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
- Check safety systems and leakage current relay if installed.
- Ensure all electrical devices are connected to common ground.
Connection of two 12 V batteries to a 24 V battery bank installation
- Connect (+) cable of first battery.
- Connect (-) cable of second battery.
- Connect (+) cable of second battery.
- Connect (-) cable of first battery.
- Disconnect batteries in reverse procedure.
Check and discharge capacitors maintenance
⚠ Charged capacitors can be lethal. Do not touch capacitor contacts.
Tools: multimeter with capacitor measuring, discharge reactor 5-10 kOhm, insulated pliers/screwdriver
- Never check capacitors while generator motor is running.
- Disconnect terminal lead wires using insulated pliers or screwdriver.
- Discharge capacitor terminals by bridging with discharge reactor.
- For three-phase capacitors discharge between L1-L2, L2-L3, L1-L3.
- Switch multimeter to capacitor measuring; connect probes to terminals.
- Measure capacity of each capacitor.
- Check all capacitors in electrical cabinet.
Checking oil-level maintenance
⚠ Generator and coolant can be hot during and after operation.
Tools: paper towels / cloth for oil dipstick
- Place generator/ship level.
- Run generator about 10 minutes to warm engine; wait 3 minutes.
- Assure generator against accidental start.
- Open generator casing.
- Pull oil dipstick, clean, reinsert, wait 10 seconds.
- Pull and read oil level at lower end.
- Refill if under 1/3; recommended 2/3; do not exceed MAX.
Checking water separator in fuel supply maintenance
- Locate pre-filter with water separator and cock underneath.
- Drain water via cock; water sinks to bottom due to density difference.
- Close cock after draining.
Refilling oil maintenance
Tools: engine oil
- Check oil-level.
- Pull oil dipstick out of check rail.
- Open oil filler cap.
- Fill in oil approx. 1/2 litre; wait about 2 minutes.
