Procedures
12Connecting an External Fuel Supply installation
⚠ Fire hazard. Ensure quick-disconnect fittings are seated and hoses are not kinked.
- Connect the external feed hose at the external feed hose fitting.
- Connect the external return hose at the external return hose fitting.
- Move the fuel valve handle from the up position for internal supply to the down position for external supply.
Positioning the Machine installation
⚠ Fire hazard. Do not move the machine while it is running.
⚠ Do not position the machine on a hill or an incline.
Tools: Wheel chocks
- Place the machine on solid, stable, and level ground.
- For machines with trailers, install chocks under the wheels.
Applying Hazardous Materials Placards maintenance
Tools: Soft cloths, Plastic squeegee
- Clean placard mounting surfaces with mild soap and water; dry.
- Use isopropyl alcohol if below 10°C (50°F) or greasy.
- Peel about 2 cm of backing paper from the top.
- Apply top of placard, gradually remove backing, press smooth.
Checking and Draining the Containment System maintenance
Tools: Plastic cloth, Collection container, Pipe sealant
- Open the access door on the side of the machine.
- Check the fluid level in the containment system.
- If fluid has accumulated, drain the containment system.
- Place a plastic cloth and collection container beneath the machine.
- Remove the drain plug and drain fluid.
- Apply pipe sealant to the drain plug and re-install.
Checking the Exhaust System maintenance
- Open the access door on the curb side of the machine.
- Inspect exhaust pipes and muffler for cracks, holes, burned insulation, loose clamps, soot.
- Start the engine and listen for excessive noise, rumbling, whine, or rattling.
- Repair or replace faulty components before returning to service.
Cleaning the DPF (Manual Regeneration) maintenance
⚠ Burn hazard. Do not touch engine, DPF, or exhaust pipe while operating.
- Start the engine at low idle speed.
- Move the manual regeneration switch to the on position and hold for five seconds.
- Release the switch.
- Regeneration runs; engine speed increases to about 1000 rpm.
- Engine returns to low idle (about 750 rpm) when complete.
Filling the Radiator maintenance
⚠ Burn hazard. Check coolant level only after engine is shut down and cool.
- Open the access cover on the roof.
- Slowly rotate radiator cap counterclockwise to release pressure; remove.
- Add coolant at about 1.5 gallons per minute for 6 minutes.
- Wait 10 minutes, then fill at about 1.5 gallons per minute for 3:30 minutes or until full.
- Run machine under 50% load for about 15 minutes until coolant exceeds 190°F.
- Inspect radiator cap and seal; clean or replace if necessary.
- Re-install the radiator cap.
Replacing the Aftertreatment DEF Dosing Unit Filter maintenance
⚠ DEF contains urea. Do not get in eyes.
⚠ Do not disconnect the DEF line while under low pressure.
Tools: Strap wrench or filter wrench, Warm water, Clean cloth, Container
- Remove the filter cap.
- Remove the filter equalizing element.
- Use the disposable filter tool to remove the filter element.
- Clean the filter cap and threads with warm water and a clean cloth.
- Insert the equalizing element into the new filter.
- Insert the filter assembly into the aftertreatment dosing unit.
- Re-install the filter cap and torque to 20 Nm (14.8 ft.lbs.).
Testing the Breakaway System (Electric Brakes) maintenance
⚠ Disconnect trailer wiring plug before testing; damage to electronic brake control.
Tools: Voltmeter, Battery charger or backup battery
- Connect machine/trailer to tow vehicle.
- Disconnect trailer wiring plug from tow vehicle.
- Pull breakaway pin out of brake switch and tow at less than 5 mph.
- Stop the tow vehicle.
- Check breakaway battery voltage; replace or recharge if not 12–14 VDC.
- Repair wiring/mechanical faults if brakes did not function.
- Reconnect wires, re-install cover and breakaway pin, reconnect plug.
Testing the Breakaway System (Hydraulic Surge Brakes) maintenance
⚠ Personal injury hazard if breakaway system is faulty.
Tools: Screwdriver or pry bar
- Position machine/trailer on a flat surface.
- Connect breakaway cable to tow vehicle, not via hitch.
- Slowly move tow vehicle until emergency lever locks into ON.
- Connect machine/trailer to tow vehicle via hitch.
- Attempt to tow at less than 5 mph; check for drag.
- Repair faults if brakes did not function.
- Stop the tow vehicle.
- Release brake by pulling breakaway cord and prying locking spring.
Lifting the Machine operation
⚠ Crushing hazard. Check for stability before continuing.
Tools: Lifting equipment, Hooks, chains, shackles
- Attach lifting devices and equipment to the lifting eye.
- Lift the machine a small distance.
- Check for stability; reposition if necessary.
- Continue lifting only when stable.
Preparing for Automatic/Remote Start-Up (Basler) operation
⚠ Be prepared for engine startup in REMOTE START position.
Tools: Jumper wire (minimum 16-gauge insulated)
- Perform a manual start to verify the LCD panel; check fuel and battery.
- Attach a jumper wire between the two remote run terminals.
- Set engine start switch to REMOTE START.
- Wait for engine to crank, start, and run.
- Move engine start switch to OFF to stop.
- Remove jumper wire.
- Set voltage selector switch to correct position.
- Set engine start switch to REMOTE START.
