Generac Q-55G Generator Set

1. After 25-hour break-in period, contact authorized service facility for maintenance.
2. Change engine crankcase oil and oil filter.
3. Check all fluid levels.
4. Inspect cooling and ventilation openings on vehicle.
5. Check engine carburetor adjustments.
6. Check engine ignition system.
7. Inspect entire electrical system.
8. Inspect engine exhaust system.

⚠ DO NOT USE TAP WATER IN BATTERY.

⚠ STORAGE BATTERIES GIVE OFF EXPLOSIVE HYDROGEN GAS.

Tools: hydrometer

1. Once weekly: Inspect battery posts and cables for tightness, corrosion. Clean and/or tighten as needed.
2. Check battery fluid level; if necessary, fill with DISTILLED WATER ONLY. DO NOT USE TAP WATER.
3. Every six months: Have battery state of charge and condition checked by automotive service facility with hydrometer.

⚠ Storage batteries give off explosive hydrogen gas.

⚠ Battery electrolyte is caustic sulfuric acid; wear protective goggles, clothing and gloves.

Tools: hydrometer, distilled water

1. Once weekly, inspect battery posts and cables for tightness and corrosion.
2. Clean and/or tighten as needed.
3. Check battery fluid level and fill with distilled water only.
4. Do not use tap water in the battery.
5. Every six months have state of charge and condition checked by an automotive service facility.

⚠ DO NOT OVERFILL ABOVE FULL MARK.

Tools: Suitable oil container

1. Warm up the engine for at least five minutes, then shut down.
2. With the engine still warm, remove the oil drain plug. Drain oil completely into a suitable container.
3. When oil has drained, install and tighten the oil drain plug.
4. Remove oil dipstick and fill crankcase with recommended oil; crankcase holds about 1.7 liters.
5. Do not overfill above the FULL mark; install and tighten dipstick cap before operating.

1. Turn oil filter counterclockwise to remove.
2. Coat gasket of the new filter with engine oil.
3. Turn new filter clockwise until its gasket contacts the filter adapter.
4. Tighten with an additional 3/4 to one turn by hand.
5. Run engine and check for leaks.

Tools: suitable container for drained oil

1. Warm up engine for at least five minutes, then shut down.
2. With engine still warm, remove oil drain plug and drain oil completely.
3. Install and tighten oil drain plug when oil has drained.
4. Remove oil dipstick and fill crankcase with recommended SAE 10W-30 oil.
5. Do not overfill above the FULL mark.
6. Install and tighten dipstick cap before operating engine.

1. Turn oil filter counterclockwise to remove.
2. Coat the gasket of the new filter with engine oil.
3. Turn new filter clockwise until its gasket contacts the filter adapter.
4. Tighten an additional 3/4 to one turn by hand.
5. Run engine and check for leaks.

⚠ DO NOT OVERFILL ABOVE FULL MARK.

Tools: Clean lint-free cloth

1. Be sure the generator is as level as possible.
2. Remove oil dipstick and wipe dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.
3. Install and tighten oil dipstick, then remove again.
4. Oil should be at the dipstick FULL mark. Add recommended oil to the FULL mark only.
5. Do not overfill above the FULL mark.
6. Install and tighten oil dipstick cap before operating the engine.

1. Clean all foreign material from the air intake screen at least once every 100 hours of operation.
2. Clean more often, if necessary.
3. Inspect the area around the generator exhaust muffler periodically and remove all grass, leaves, dirt, etc.

⚠ DO NOT BLAST CLEAN SPARK PLUGS.

⚠ Sparking can occur if wire terminals do not fit firmly over spark plug terminal ends; reform terminals if necessary.

Tools: Feeler gauge, Wire brush

1. Clean engine spark plugs and reset gap to 0.030 inch (0.8 mm) every 100 hours of operation.
2. Clean by scraping or wire brushing and washing with solvent.
3. Do not blast clean spark plugs.

⚠ Sparking can occur if wire terminals do not fit firmly over spark plug terminal ends.

Tools: wire brush, commercial solvent, gap gauge

1. Remove spark plugs and clean every 100 hours of operation.
2. Clean by scraping or wire brushing and washing with commercial solvent.
3. Reset spark plug gap to 0.030 inch (0.8mm).
4. Do not blast clean spark plugs.
5. Reform wire terminals if they do not fit firmly over spark plug ends.
