12Battery Inspection and Service maintenance
⚠ Storage batteries give off explosive hydrogen gas
⚠ Battery electrolyte is caustic sulfuric acid
Tools: Automotive type battery hydrometer
- Once weekly inspect battery posts and cables for tightness and corrosion.
- Clean and/or tighten as necessary.
- Check battery fluid level and fill with distilled water only.
- Every six months have state of charge and condition checked with an automotive hydrometer.
Change Engine Oil maintenance
⚠ DO NOT FILL ABOVE 'FULL' MARK
- Warm up engine for at least five minutes, then shut down.
- With engine still warm, clean area around oil drain plug and remove plug.
- Drain oil completely into a suitable container.
- Install and tighten drain plug.
- Remove oil dipstick and fill crankcase with recommended oil.
- Install and tighten dipstick cap before operating engine.
Change Oil Filter maintenance
- Turn oil filter counterclockwise to remove.
- Coat gasket of new filter with engine oil.
- Turn new filter clockwise until gasket contacts filter adapter.
- Tighten an additional 3/4 to one turn by hand.
- Run engine and check for leaks.
Checking Engine Oil Level maintenance
⚠ DO NOT FILL ABOVE 'FULL' MARK
- Be sure generator is as level as possible.
- Remove oil dipstick and wipe dry with clean, lint-free cloth.
- Install and tighten oil dipstick, then remove again.
- Oil should be at dipstick FULL mark; add recommended oil to FULL mark only.
- Install and tighten oil dipstick cap before operating engine.
Clean Air Intake Screen maintenance
- Clean all foreign material from the air intake screen.
- Inspect area around generator exhaust muffler and remove grass, leaves and dirt.
Engine Air Cleaner — Clean and Re-oil Pre-cleaner maintenance
- Turn KNOB counterclockwise to loosen.
- Remove COVER, FOAM PRE-CLEANER AND PAPER FILTER.
- Remove foam pre-cleaner from cover.
- Wash foam pre-cleaner in liquid detergent and water.
- Wrap in a cloth and squeeze dry.
- Saturate foam pre-cleaner in engine oil; squeeze to remove excess oil.
- Install foam pre-cleaner into cover, followed by paper filter.
- Insert bottom locking tab of cover into slot and install.
Out of Service Protection maintenance
⚠ Never store the battery on any concrete or dirt floor
- Start engine and let it warm up.
- While engine is still warm, drain oil completely; refill crankcase with recommended oil.
- Attach a tag to the engine indicating oil viscosity and classification.
- Remove spark plug(s) and add about two or three tablespoons of clean engine oil into threaded opening(s).
- Crank engine several times to distribute oil, then install and tighten spark plug(s).
- Remove battery and store in a cool, dry room on a wooden board.
- Clean and wipe the entire generator.
- Shut off fuel supply.
Out of Service Protection (Storage) maintenance
⚠ Never store the battery on any concrete or dirt floor
- Start engine and let it warm up.
- While warm, drain oil completely; refill crankcase with recommended oil.
- Attach tag to engine indicating oil viscosity and classification.
- Remove spark plug(s) and add two or three tablespoons clean engine oil.
- Crank engine several times to distribute oil; install and tighten plug(s).
- Remove battery; store in cool dry room on wooden board.
- Clean and wipe the entire generator.
- Shut off fuel supply.
Return Unit to Service After Storage maintenance
⚠ DO NOT USE TAP WATER IN THE BATTERY
- Check tag on engine for oil viscosity and classification; verify correct oil is used.
- Check battery; fill all cells with distilled water and recharge to 100%.
- Turn OFF all electrical loads, turn on fuel supply, then start engine.
- Let engine warm up.
- Apply electrical loads to at least 50% of the unit's rated wattage capacity.
- When engine is thoroughly warmed up, turn off electrical loads and shut it down.
Service Engine Air Cleaner maintenance
- Turn knob counterclockwise to loosen.
- Remove cover, foam pre-cleaner and paper filter.
- Remove foam pre-cleaner from cover.
- Wash pre-cleaner in liquid detergent and water.
- Wrap pre-cleaner in cloth and squeeze dry.
- Saturate pre-cleaner in engine oil; squeeze out excess.
- Install pre-cleaner into cover, followed by paper filter with tabs locked into slots.
- Insert bottom locking tab of cover into slot and install assembly.
Service Engine Spark Plug maintenance

⚠ Sparking can occur if wire terminal does not fit firmly over spark plug terminal end
