Generac Serial & Model Number Guide

Every Generac generator carries a model/serial label. Here is where to find it, what each part of the number means, and how to use it for parts, service and age.

Where to find it: the data label on the unit (inside the enclosure door on home-standby sets). It shows a Model number and a separate Serial Number.

What the number means

Worked example — 005261-0:

PartMeaningDetail
005261Model numberGenerac model/catalog number identifying the product.
0Revision / suffixTrailing revision or configuration suffix.

Using the serial number

Generac keys everything to the Model + Serial number pair, both on the data label. The serial is Generac's internal lookup key for the exact build — the manufacture date is NOT encoded in it (Generac uses simple sequential numbering), so to find the year you must call Generac (888-GENERAC) with the serial; they keep records roughly 12–15 years back. The catalog / ordering SKU can also differ from the marketing model name.
