Procedures

12
Air Filter Replacement maintenance

⚠ If the generator operates in dusty or dirty environments, the filter may need to be replaced more frequently.

  1. Ensure the generator is off first.
  2. Remove the service side of the top capsule.
  3. Locate the Air Intake Box at the rear of the generator.
  4. Unscrew the 6 screws that hold the cover of the air intake box.
  5. Remove the cover; the filter inside the metal casing is a fiber element.
  6. Replace the filter as per the maintenance schedule or if it appears dirty.
  7. Reinstall the cover.
Coolant Bleeding maintenance

⚠ Hot engine components and coolant may cause severe burns. Do not open the coolant expansion tank if the generator is hot.

  1. Ensure the engine is cool.
  2. Remove the coolant expansion tank cap and lower the tank below the bleed screw level.
  3. Open the bleed point; gravity will push coolant from the engine into the tank.
  4. Raise the expansion tank above the thermostat housing; do not let the tank empty.
  5. Observe the bleed point; close once only coolant (no air bubbles) flows.
  6. Secure the expansion tank cap.
  7. Run the generator for one minute.
  8. Repeat the bleeding process two more times to ensure all air is removed.
Engine Oil Changing maintenance

⚠ Spilled oil could result in fire. Clean up any spilled oil immediately.

⚠ Used engine oil contains products known to cause cancer per California Proposition 65.

Tools: Oil drain hose, Pump (optional)

  1. Run generator under load until normal operating temperature.
  2. Remove load, shut off generator, disconnect starter battery.
  3. Remove oil cap and the cap on the oil drain hose at the service side.
  4. Drain oil completely; a pump may be hooked to the hose if convenient.
  5. Once completely drained, replace oil drain hose cap.
  6. Refill engine oil to the maximum mark on the dipstick.
  7. Do not overfill or underfill; dispose of used oil per local regulations.
Fuel Bleeding Procedure maintenance

⚠ Diesel fuel is flammable; shut off all ignition sources and do not allow smoking, flames, or sparks.

  1. Stop generator. Turn on control panel.
  2. Press the fuel primer button for 3 minutes.
  3. Open the fuel bleeder screw at the injection pump while pressing the fuel primer button.
  4. Check for air in the fuel.
  5. Close fuel bleeder screw.
  6. If air is noted, repeat steps 2 and 3 until no air is observed.
  7. Press the fuel primer for an additional 30 seconds and verify no leaks.
  8. Turn off the control panel.
Long Term and Winter Storage maintenance

⚠ Observe local regulations for the disposal of antifreeze.

Tools: Diesel stabilizer, Non-toxic anti-freeze, Low-tack duct tape

  1. Add the correct amount of diesel stabilizer to the fuel tank.
  2. Check engine coolant mixture for the lowest temperature expected.
  3. Run generator 15 minutes with fresh water, then 5 minutes with non-toxic anti-freeze.
  4. Remove impeller to completely drain water; replace with a new impeller.
  5. Change engine oil and filter; change fuel filters.
  6. Charge batteries and disconnect; fill diesel tank to prevent condensation.
  7. Close all generator seacocks; apply low-tack duct tape to intake hose and exhaust outlet.
  8. Drain raw water system if below freezing; clean and dry any moisture in the capsule.
Post Operational Checks maintenance

⚠ Hot engine components and coolant may cause severe burns. Do not touch the generator while it is hot.

  1. Make sure the generator is shut down.
  2. Disconnect the starter battery.
  3. Open generator capsule top.
  4. Inspect for leaks at hoses, hose connections, fuel filter, coolant pump, and raw water pump.
  5. Check for exhaust leaks; if an issue is found, fix and clean immediately.
  6. Reinstall capsule top.
Preoperational Checks maintenance

⚠ Hot engine components and coolant may cause severe burns. Do not touch the generator while it is hot.

  1. Make sure generator is shut down.
  2. Remove the generator capsule top.
  3. Inspect for leaks at hoses, hose connections, fuel filter, coolant pump, raw water pump, and exhaust.
  4. Check engine oil level; keep to the maximum on the dipstick.
  5. Check coolant level in the expansion tank.
  6. Visually inspect motor and generator mounting screws for tightness.
  7. Check the sea strainer for debris and clean as necessary.
  8. Reinstall the capsule top and check the fuel level.
Raw Water Impeller Inspection and Replacement maintenance

⚠ If operating in abrasive environments like coral or sand, impellers may wear out faster and should be replaced more frequently.

Tools: New gasket, Supplied lubricant

  1. Close the raw water seacock to stop the water flow.
  2. Remove the cover and inspect the impeller for cracks, chips, wear, or missing vanes.
  3. Replace the impeller if it is removed or has damaged vanes.
  4. Locate and remove any missing vanes in the raw water system.
  5. Replace the raw water pump shaft seal whenever the impeller is replaced.
  6. Use the lubricant that comes with the new impeller during installation.
  7. Reinstall the impeller into the pump and place the cover back on with a new gasket.
Raw Water Pump Maintenance maintenance

⚠ Failure to check can cause raw water to leak into the capsule, potentially damaging the generator coils, engine, and electrical wiring.

  1. Inspect the raw water pump housing for signs of leakage and wear after removing the impeller.
  2. If excessive wear or leakage is found, replace the entire raw water pump.
  3. Perform daily checks for corrosion, moisture, or salt crystallization before starting.
  4. If water is found inside the capsule, dry it up immediately.
  5. Replace the raw water impeller according to the intervals in Section 5.6.
  6. Replace the water pump shaft seal whenever the impeller is replaced.
  7. Inspect raw water pump fasteners for corrosion; replace them if corrosion is found.
  8. Clean any corrosion on the outside of the raw water pump.
Recommissioning maintenance
  1. Reconnect raw water hoses.
  2. Remove tape on air intakes and exhaust.
  3. Charge batteries and reconnect.
  4. Install raw water impeller.
  5. Perform any scheduled preventative maintenance not performed before long-term storage.
  6. Turn the engine over by hand for a couple of revolutions.
  7. Perform Pre-operational Checks (Section 3.1).
  8. Start engine and check for exhaust, fuel, and water leaks.
Shutting Off the Generator operation
  1. Allow the engine to run at a light load for two minutes prior to shut down.
  2. Press and release the Start/Stop button on the control panel.
  3. The light above the Start/Stop button will turn off once the engine stops.
  4. Press and release the On/Off button to shut off the control panel, engine controller, and inverter.
Starting the Generator operation

⚠ If the generator fails to start after more than four attempts, raw water may enter the engine through the exhaust manifold. Damage from water ingestion is not covered under warranty.

  1. Open raw water valve.
  2. Press and release the On/Off button on the control panel.
  3. Verify on the control panel that no values display '---' by cycling through screens.
  4. Press and release the Start/Stop button; the engine automatically preheats for 0 to 20 seconds.
  5. The starter engages; the control system disengages it once the engine starts.
  6. If the generator fails to start, the shutdown message 'Start Attempt Failed' is displayed.
