⚠ Wrong battery connection can cause short-circuit and fire.

⚠ Battery negative may not be connected to boat ground or protective grounding of 120 V installation.

1. Install separate starter battery for generator.
2. Attach positive cable directly at starter solenoid switch.
3. Attach negative cable underneath starter motor at engine mount.
4. Install fuse and battery circuit breaker in positive cable within 300 mm of battery.
5. Connect cables first at generator, then at battery.
6. Ensure battery voltage matches start system voltage.

Tools: voltmeter

1. Switch off all on-board electrical devices.
2. Start generator.
3. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and AC-Control box, and between generator housing and ground.
4. Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
5. Check safety systems and RCD if installed.
6. Check all electrical devices are connected to common ground.

⚠ Charged capacitors can be lethal; do not touch bare contacts.

Tools: Multimeter with capacitor measuring, Discharge reactor 5-10 kOhm, Insulated pliers/screwdriver

1. Never check capacitors while generator motor is running.
2. Disconnect terminal lead wires using insulated pliers or screwdriver.
3. Discharge capacitors by bridging terminals with discharge reactor.
4. For three-phase capacitors discharge between every phase.
5. Measure capacity with multimeter set to capacitor measuring.

⚠ Battery gases are explosive; keep sparks and naked flames away.

1. Remove sealing caps.
2. If testers are present, electrolyte level should reach their base.
3. Without testers, level should be 10-15 mm above top of plates.
4. Top up with distilled water if necessary.
5. Screw sealing caps back in.

⚠ Burn hazard; generator and coolant can be hot

Tools: paper towels / cloth

1. Place generator level.
2. Run generator about 10 minutes to warm engine.
3. Wait 3 minutes for oil to flow back.
4. Assure generator against accidental start.
5. Open generator casing.
6. Pull and clean oil dipstick.
7. Reinsert dipstick and wait 10 seconds.
8. Pull dipstick and read oil-level.

1. Close water cock.
2. Release raw water filter.
3. Beat filter basket to remove debris.
4. If water seeps through cover, check sealing ring between caps and filter holder.

1. Check oil level; ideal level 2/3.
2. Check state of cooling water.
3. Open sea cock for cooling water intake.
4. Check raw water filter.
5. Check all hose connections and hose clamps for leakage.
6. Check all electrical lead terminal contacts are firm.
7. Check motor and generator mounting screws are tight.
8. Switch land electricity/generator switch to zero before starting.
9. Check automatic controls functions and oil pressure.

1. Pull handle in arrow direction.
2. Lift lash of closure pin.
3. Remove upper sound insulation cover.

Tools: flat head screwdriver

1. Rotate closures roughly 180° counter-clockwise with flat head screwdriver.
2. Pull sidewalls out by gripping into the slots.

Tools: engine oil

1. Check oil-level.
2. Pull oil dipstick out of check rail.
3. Open oil filler cap.
4. Fill in oil approx. 1/2 litre and wait about 2 minutes.
5. Wipe dipstick and check oil-level.
6. Repeat steps 4-6 if oil-level still under 2/3.

Tools: Spanner size 8 mm

1. Open air suction housing (six screws, 8 mm) or release pull-out holder/snap fasteners.
2. Remove old air filter mat/element.
3. Install new air filter mat/element.
4. Close/reassemble housing.

Tools: 8 mm spanner

1. Loosen the six screws on the air suction housing cover with 8 mm spanner.
2. Open the air suction housing.
3. Change the air filter mat.
4. Close the suction air housing.
