Procedures
12Setting GEN TYPE adjustment
⚠ GEN TYPE sets the service interval for service messages and critical automatic starting parameters.
- Navigate to the SETUP & INFO display and press ENTER.
- Navigate to the SETUP GENSET display and press ENTER; the GEN TYPE is displayed.
- Press SET; the display will flash.
- Use the UP/DOWN key to select the GEN TYPE and press ENTER when the appropriate type is displayed.
Setting Quiet Time (QT) Start & End adjustment
⚠ QUIET ON mode prohibits the genset from automatically starting between the start and end of Quiet Time.
- Use the UP/DOWN key to navigate to the QT START or QT END display; the current setting is shown.
- Press SET to change the setting.
- Use the UP/DOWN key to change the value.
- Press ENTER to store the new time.
Setting Safety Type adjustment
⚠ If it has not been setup (SafeType NONE), automatic operation will not be allowed.
- Use the UP/DOWN key to select the correct type of safety input: Ignition, Brake, or Park.
- Press ENTER to store in permanent memory.
Setting the Hour-Meter adjustment
- If the EC-20 is installed on an existing genset, check its hour-meter and record the reading.
- ENTER the SETUP & INFO menu and navigate to the SETUP GENSET display.
- Press ENTER and use the DOWN key to select the SET gen hours display.
- Press SET; the next display says ENTER to unlock; press ENTER to continue.
- Hold down UP/DOWN and scroll until the left most digit matches the desired value.
- Release UP/DOWN and wait four seconds for the underline to move to the next digit to the right, then scroll to its desired value.
- Set each successive digit to the right until the correct genset hours are displayed and press ENTER.
Setting the Hour-Meter (SET Gen Hour) adjustment
⚠ ENTER to unlock prevents unauthorized changes to the hour-meter.
- Check the hour-meter on the genset and record the reading.
- Enter the SETUP & INFO menu and navigate to the SETUP GENSET display; press ENTER.
- Use the DOWN key to select the SET Gen hour's display; press SET.
- Press ENTER at the ENTER to unlock display to continue.
- Hold down the UP/DOWN key and scroll until the left-most digit matches the desired value.
- Release the UP/DOWN key and wait four seconds for the underline to move to the next digit; scroll to its desired value.
- Set each successive digit to the right until the correct genset hours are displayed, then press ENTER to store.
Hot Air Recirculation Test diagnostic
⚠ Exhaust gas is deadly
Tools: thermocouples (24 AWG or lighter)
- Complete a representative installation
- Conduct test in well-ventilated space protected from cross drafts
- Connect large constant load (at least 3/4 full load if load bank available)
- Measure temperatures with thermocouples not heavier than 0.21 mm2 (24 AWG)
- Measure generator set intake air temperature 25.4 mm (1 in) from radiator face
- Measure ambient air temperature within 1.2 m (4 ft) of generator set, shielded from sun/discharge air
- Close all compartment doors, run generator set at least 90 minutes, record temperatures at 15 minute intervals
Run Gen Test diagnostic
⚠ The sequence can only be interrupted by manually stopping the genset using the STOP switch.
- Verify the location is safe for running the genset and that its installation is completed.
- Navigate to the display that says ENTER to Run Gen and press ENTER.
- The EC-30 goes through a complete start and stop sequence and displays results as the test happens.
- When the test is complete the display says Gen Ok ENTER; press ENTER to exit back to ENTER to Run Gen.
Test Procedure diagnostic
⚠ Disable AGS by disconnecting battery or genset remote harness before servicing.
- Reconnect the genset negative (-) battery cable.
- Insert the fuse in the fuse holders for Wire #7 8-35VDC Power, Wire #8 House Battery Sense, and Wire #9 Engine Battery Sense.
- Refer to the Setting Up section and select the genset type.
- Set the hour-meter if the EC-30 is installed on an existing genset; skip this step on a new genset.
- Start and stop the genset using the Stop/Start switch located at the genset to confirm genset operation.
- Start the genset at the EC-30 and check the Start/Stop indicator light flashes while cranking (units with diagnostics only).
- Confirm the genset starts and continues to run, and that the Start/Stop indicator light remains illuminated while running.
- Scroll to the Hour Meter display and confirm it is operating.
- Scroll to the Volt Meter display and confirm it is operating.
- Stop the genset at the controller and check that the genset stops, the indicator light turns off, and the Hour Meter stops.
- Use the TEST SYSTEM displays to sequentially test all inputs and outputs.
- Set the clock to the current local time.
Testing Shore AC Present diagnostic
⚠ Do not connect 120VAC or 240VAC line voltage to the EC-30! It will be damaged and will not be covered by warranty.
- Be sure the Shore AC is disconnected and do not do this test with the genset running.
- Navigate to the Shore AC Present display and press ENTER; the display says Turn On Shore AC.
- Plug the shore AC back in or turn the breaker on; the display changes to read AC Ok ENTER.
- Press ENTER to exit the test.
Troubleshooting the EC-30 diagnostic
⚠ Improper service or replacement of parts can result in severe personal injury, death, and/or equipment damage.
Tools: Voltmeter
- Determine if the genset operates correctly from the genset controls; if not, the problem is in the genset, not the EC-30.
- Confirm the correct connection diagram (Figures 5, 6 and 7) was used, then check EC-30 wiring connections.
- Confirm that the correct voltages are present on each terminal.
- Check all terminal connections on both ends of the wiring harness and confirm harness connectors are properly joined.
- Repeat the TEST SYSTEM procedure as described in the manual.
Verify the Safety Input diagnostic
⚠ If the safety input is not verified by day 30, AUTO GEN is disabled.
- Press the AUTO GEN key; the EC-30 requests verification of the SAFETY (IGNITION, PARK or BRAKE) input.
- Turn on or off the appropriate safety input signal (ignition, transmission position, park brake or trailer brake).
- Press ENTER only if the genset is in a safe location for automatic operation.
AC Power Output Connections - Wiring Methods installation
⚠ Improper wiring can cause fire or electric shock
- Have a qualified electrician supervise and inspect all AC wiring installation
- Secure only one lead at each AC output terminal (terminals suitable up to No. 6 AWG)
- Install vibration-proof switches and controls
- Use rain-tight conduit, conduit connectors and junction boxes for exterior wiring
- Provide GFCIs for all convenience power receptacles
- Route AC wiring, remote control wiring, and fuel lines separately
- Seal all conduit openings into vehicle interior with silicone rubber or equivalent sealant
- Connect grounding terminal TB2-4 per applicable codes
