Procedures
8Voltage Sensing Calibration - Span adjustment
⚠ Ensure generator output voltage is set within nominal limits
Tools: external AC voltmeter
- Energize generator supply voltage to the controller at nominal level.
- Scroll to desired generator supply voltage phase with SPAN function selected.
- Connect external AC voltmeter to the controller terminals for those phases.
- Adjust correction factor number to obtain identical voltage reading.
- Press ENTER to accept the correction factor number; record it.
Voltage Sensing Calibration - Zero adjustment
Tools: external AC voltmeter
- Connect external AC voltmeter to controller terminals for the phases to be calibrated.
- With generator stopped, confirm there is zero volts on the phases.
- Scroll to desired generator supply voltage phase with ZERO function selected.
- Use INCREMENT or DECREMENT to adjust correction factor to obtain zero volts.
- Press ENTER to accept the correction factor number; record it.
Ventilation Test diagnostic
⚠ Opening doors/windows can upset air-flow pattern and reduce cooling
Tools: two thermometers
- Place thermometer close to engine blower housing cool air intake.
- Place second thermometer outside the building in open air.
- Run engine under maximum load for at least one hour.
- Temperature difference between the two must not exceed 15 degrees F.
- Repeat test with doors/windows closed, then with them open.
- Do not run generator under conditions exceeding 15 F difference.
Battery Installation installation
⚠ Never jump start a battery
⚠ Do not cause flame or spark in battery area
⚠ Remove watches, rings, necklaces and all metal objects
Tools: washers, lock washer, nut
- Open access doors and locate battery tray.
- Place the correct battery (BCI Group 31) on the tray.
- Install Battery Hold Down Bar and Rods through tray holes; secure with washers and nut.
- Repeat hold down rod installation for the other rod.
- Connect positive lead to positive (+) battery terminal.
- Connect negative lead to negative (-) battery terminal.
- Connect charging source to the battery terminals.
- Disconnect battery ground terminal before working near battery.
LP Gas Connections (vapor withdrawal only) installation
⚠ LPG and natural gas fuels are flammable and can cause fire, explosion, injury or death
Tools: soap solution for leak check
- Connect proper size gas pipe at the input to the LP Gas regulator.
- Use correct pipe size per Table 3-6 for flow rate and pipe length.
- Ensure all connections are sealed and no leaks are present.
- Verify fuel supply pressure is 11 inches water column (6 oz pressure).
Natural Gas Connections installation
⚠ Only a professional experienced technician should install a fuel supply system
Tools: soap solution for leak check
- Connect proper size gas pipe at Inlet Connection to the Fuel Lock Solenoid.
- Use correct pipe size per Table 3-5 for flow rate and pipe length.
- Ensure all connections are sealed and no leaks are present.
- Verify fuel supply pressure is 11 inches water column (6 oz pressure).
- Comply with all building codes.
Post Installation Checks installation
⚠ Stop engine immediately if a fuel, coolant or oil leak is detected
Tools: voltmeter
- Verify transfer switch is in Utility Power mode; no power present at generator.
- Verify engine starting battery is disconnected.
- Verify generator is securely mounted and anchored to its cement pad.
- Verify generator and transfer switch are properly grounded.
- Verify engine oil and coolant levels are full.
- Verify fuel source is ON with correct pressure and flow rate.
- Connect battery, start generator and check for fuel/coolant/oil leaks.
Magnetic Pickup Replacement repair
⚠ Do not insert a screwdriver into the magnetic pickup hole - threads can be damaged
⚠ Do not use the generator cooling fan to rotate the engine/generator
Tools: socket on engine crank pulley, jam nut wrench
- Disconnect battery from generator set; remove old magnetic pickup sensor.
- Center a flywheel gear ring tooth in the pickup hole; rotate engine via crank pulley.
- Measure distance d from tooth top to outside of flywheel housing.
- Set jam nut slightly beyond d (d+) so pickup fully threads into housing.
- Thread magnetic pickup into flywheel housing until it bottoms on tooth.
- Back pickup out 1/2 turn and tighten jam nut to flywheel housing.
- Verify proper operation (1.3 VAC while cranking).
- Apply a drop of wicking fastener adhesive to the locking nut.

Troubleshooting
6Symptoms & remedies
| Symptom | Remedy |
|---|---|
| This generator must not be used on or near any forest covered, brush covered, or grass covered land unless the engine’s exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrestor. | The spark arrestor must be maintained in effective working order by the operator. |
| Never move a generator set that is running. | Loads should be connected and position secure before starting the engine. Hazards are caused by moving a generator set that is running. |
| Be sure that you understand how to stop the engine quickly in case of an emergency situation. | Become familiar with the controls and safety systems provided with this generator set. |
| Improper operation may cause violent motion of connected equipment. | Be certain that unexpected movement will not cause injury to personnel or damage to equipment. |
| Never permit anyone to operate the generator without proper instructions. | Be sure to keep a copy of this manual with the generator so that all users can be properly informed of its safe operation. |
| Do not put hands, feet, tools clothing or other objects near rotating parts such as drive shaft, pulley, belt etc. | Rotating parts cause extremely dangerous situations because they can catch loose clothing or extremities and cause serious or fatal injury. |
