Magnetic Pickup Adjustment adjustment

⚠ Jam nut over-torque will damage the magnetic pickup.

Tools: feeler gauge, torque wrench

  1. Ensure a ring gear tooth is centered under the magnetic pickup hole. Rotate flywheel if necessary.
  2. Screw the magnetic pickup in until it contacts the targeted gear tooth. Do not use excessive pressure.
  3. Back the magnetic pickup out (counterclockwise) 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
  4. If a feeler gauge can be inserted between the magnetic pickup and the flywheel ring gear tooth, back the magnetic pickup out 0.71 to 1.07 mm [0.028 to 0.042 in.] from the gear tooth.
  5. Tighten the jam nut on the flywheel housing. While holding the magnetic pickup, torque the jam nut to 34-47 N-m [25-35 ft-lb].
Generator/PCC Control Isolation Procedure diagnostic

⚠ HIGH VOLTAGE. Touching uninsulated high voltage parts inside the control box can result in severe personal injury or death.

Tools: Jumper leads, 12 volt battery, Voltmeter

  1. Throw line circuit breaker OFF and shut down the set.
  2. Remove electronics box cover; remove connector 10 from regulator output module.
  3. Prepare to measure output voltage across generator terminals while set is running.
  4. Bring jumpers from a 12 volt battery to X (Field +, red wire 10-6) and XX (Field –, brown wire 10-3) pins of plug P10.
  5. Check polarity again; polarity must be correct or test is inconclusive.
  6. Start the set and connect the jumper from battery negative terminal to the XX lead.
  7. If rated voltage or higher and phases balanced, generator circuitry is probably okay; otherwise troubleshoot.
  8. If voltages unbalanced, troubleshoot main stator first; if uniformly low, troubleshoot exciter and field circuits first.
Megger and PI Test diagnostic

⚠ Hazardous voltage. After DC test voltage applied, reconnect Grounding Cluster to remove static charge after each test.

Tools: Megger

  1. Perform the Generator Set Grounding Procedure.
  2. Disconnect connector 10 from voltage regulator output stage and AC control leads 5,6,7,8.
  3. If RTD option installed, ground all six RTD temperature leads (18 leads total).
  4. Main Stator: remove and separate neutral leads from terminal 'N'.
  5. Connect megger between one stator phase and ground, grounding other two phases; test.
  6. Repeat stator test for the other two phases.
  7. Main Rotor: disconnect rotor and voltage suppressor leads from F1+ and F2-.
  8. Connect megger between one rotor lead and ground and conduct the test.
