Generator Tests Under Load diagnostic
⚠ DO NOT OVERLOAD.
Tools: Voltmeter, Frequency meter
- Set the generator main circuit breaker to OFF or OPEN.
- Set the utility service disconnect circuit breaker to OFF or OPEN, and turn OFF all load circuit breakers.
- Manually actuate the transfer switch main contacts to the emergency (standby) position.
- Select MANUAL mode to start the generator; let it stabilize for a few minutes.
- Set the generator main circuit breaker to ON or CLOSED.
- Turn on electrical loads to the full rated wattage/amperage capacity of the generator. DO NOT OVERLOAD.
- With maximum rated load applied, check voltage and frequency across transfer switch terminals E1 and E2.
- Let the generator run under rated load for at least 30 minutes.
- Set main circuit breaker of the generator to the OFF or OPEN position.
- Let the generator run at no-load for several minutes, then shut down by selecting the OFF mode.
- Move the main switch contacts back to the utility position.
- Set the utility service disconnect circuit breaker of the transfer switch to ON or CLOSED.
Generator Voltage Checks diagnostic
⚠ Electrocution. High voltage is present at transfer switch and terminals.
Tools: Accurate AC voltmeter, Frequency meter
- On the generator panel, select the MANUAL mode of operation.
- Let the generator stabilize and warm up at no-load for at least five minutes.
- Set the generator's main circuit breaker (CB1) to its ON or CLOSED position.
- Check the no-load voltage and frequency across ATS terminal lugs E1 to E2; E1 to NEUTRAL and E2 to NEUTRAL.
- When generator supply voltage is correct, turn OFF the generator supply to the transfer switch.
- Set the generator main circuit breaker (CB1) to OFF or OPEN.
- On the generator panel, select the OFF mode to shut down the generator.
Testing The SACM diagnostic
- Turn on the utility supply to the ATS.
- Verify managed loads are powered and all LEDs illuminate on SACM.
- Press the TEST button on the SACM.
- Verify that all of the connected loads to be shed become disabled.
- After five (5) minutes verify A/C 1 is energized and Status LED A/C 1 is ON.
- After another 15 seconds, verify A/C 2 is energized and Status LED A/C 2 is ON.
- After another 15 seconds, verify Load A/C 3 is energized and Status LED Load A/C 3 is ON.
- After another 15 seconds, verify A/C 4 is energized and Status LED A/C 4 is ON.
Utility Voltage Checks diagnostic
⚠ Electrocution. High voltage is present at transfer switch and terminals.
Tools: Accurate AC voltmeter, Digital Multimeter (DMM) with LowZ setting
- Turn ON the utility power supply to the transfer switch using the utility service disconnect circuit breaker.
- With an accurate AC voltmeter, check for correct voltage across ATS terminal lugs N1 and N2; N1 to NEUTRAL and N2 to NEUTRAL.
Connecting Power Source and Generator Power Supply installation
⚠ Electrocution. Turn utility and emergency power supplies to OFF before connecting power source and load lines.
⚠ A jumper wire (B) bonds the upper and lower Neutral lugs. NEVER remove this wire.
- Connect utility supply at the utility service disconnect circuit breaker terminals N1 and N2.
- Connect utility neutral and ground to the Upper Neutral and Ground terminals.
- Connect generator to the generator terminals (E1 and E2) on the transfer mechanism.
- Connect the generator neutral wire to the lower neutral lug.
- Connect a subpanel supply to lower T1 and T2 Terminals.
Open Enclosure maintenance
⚠ Inner Panel only available in models that are Service Entrance Rated.
- Remove thumb screw (B).
- Slide slot (C) over retention tab.
- Lower cover until clear of top flange (D), and pull away from enclosure.
- Loosen nut (F) until it clears t-slot (H) in inner panel.
- Grasp inner panel at two cutouts (G) and tilt panel, passing nut through t-slot.
- Lower inner panel until clear of two retention slots (J), and pull away from enclosure.
Preparing for Maintenance maintenance
⚠ Automatic start-up. Disconnect utility power and render unit inoperable before working on unit.
- At the controller, turn the generator OFF.
- Set the MLCB (generator disconnect) on the generator to OFF (OPEN).
- Turn the main utility disconnect OFF (OPEN).
- Remove 7.5A fuse from the controller.
- Follow maintenance procedure(s).
- Turn the main utility disconnect ON (CLOSED).
- Install 7.5A fuse in controller.
- Put the generator into AUTO mode.
- Set the MLCB (generator disconnect) on the generator to ON (CLOSED).
SACM Fuse Service maintenance
Tools: Fuse removal and installation tool, Diagonal pliers
- Snap the fuse removal and installation tool free with an appropriate tool such as diagonal pliers.
- Use it to replace the fuse.
- Store the tool in the SACM housing retainer directly above the fuses, with the large thumb tab facing out.
Close to Generator Source Side operation
Tools: Manual operating handle
- Verify switch position by observing manual operation handle.
