Procedures
12Adjusting Valve Clearance adjustment
⚠ Hold rocker arm jam nut in place as pivot ball stud is turned.
Tools: 10mm allen wrench, feeler gauge, socket wrench
- Engine should be cool before checking.
- Remove spark plug wires and position away from plugs.
- Remove spark plugs.
- Position piston at Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke.
- Remove four screws attaching valve cover.
- Loosen rocker jam nut.
- Turn pivot ball stud with 10mm allen wrench while checking clearance.
- Tighten jam nut to 174 in/lbs torque and recheck clearance.
Reconfiguring the Fuel System (8kW) adjustment
⚠ Gaseous fuels are highly explosive. No leakage permitted.
Tools: plastic T-handle fuel selector
- Turn off main gas supply.
- Open roof and remove door.
- Remove battery if installed.
- Insert T-handle pin into selector knob hole.
- Pull out to overcome spring pressure, twist clockwise 90 degrees.
- Allow selector to return once aligned with LP position.
- Save tool with Owner's Manual.
- Install battery, door, close roof; reverse to convert back.
Reconfiguring the Fuel System (V-twin) adjustment
⚠ Gaseous fuels are highly explosive. No leakage permitted.
- Open roof.
- For 10kW: loosen clamp, slide back air inlet hose.
- Slide fuel selector on carburetor out towards back of enclosure.
- Return inlet hose and tighten clamp securely.
- For 12-20kW: remove air cleaner cover.
- Slide selector lever out towards back of enclosure.
- Return air cleaner cover and tighten two thumb screws.
- Close roof; reverse to convert back.
Battery Installation installation
⚠ Damage will result if battery connections are made in reverse.
⚠ Do not dispose of battery in fire.
- Set AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF.
- Turn off utility power to transfer switch.
- Remove 7.5A fuse from generator control panel.
- Connect red battery cable to positive (POS or +) post.
- Connect black battery cable to negative (NEG or -) post.
Changing the Engine Air Cleaner (10kW) maintenance
- Lift roof and remove door.
- Turn worm gear clamp screw counterclockwise to loosen.
- Pull old filter off divider panel hub.
- Wipe away dust or debris from panel hub.
- Install new air cleaner onto hub.
- Turn worm gear clamp screw clockwise to tighten.
- Replace door and roof.
Changing the Engine Air Cleaner (12,14,16,17,20kW) maintenance
- Lift roof and remove door.
- Turn two screws counterclockwise to loosen.
- Remove cover and air filter.
- Wipe away dust or debris from air box.
- Install new air cleaner into air box.
- Install cover and turn two screws clockwise to tighten.
Changing the Engine Air Cleaner (8kW) maintenance
- Lift roof and remove door.
- Push back latch of yellow air filter access door to swing open.
- Pull out old air filter and discard.
- Install new filter, open end first into air box.
- Swing yellow door shut and snap to close.
- Replace door and close roof securely.
Changing the Engine Oil maintenance
⚠ DO NOT OVER FILL.
⚠ Never operate engine with oil level below Add mark.
Tools: container
- Run engine until warm, then set AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF.
- Pull oil drain hose free of retaining clip, remove cap, drain oil.
- Replace cap and retain hose in clip.
- Remove old oil filter by turning counterclockwise.
- Apply clean oil to new filter gasket.
- Screw new filter on by hand until gasket contacts adapter.
- Tighten additional 3/4 to one turn.
- Refill with recommended oil, run one minute, check for leaks.
Out of Service Procedure maintenance
⚠ Never store battery on concrete or earthen floor.
- Start engine and let warm up.
- Close fuel shutoff valve and allow unit to shut down.
- Switch to OFF position.
- Set main circuit breaker to OFF.
- Remove 7.5A fuse and disconnect battery cables.
- Drain oil completely while warm; refill crankcase with oil.
- Attach tag indicating oil viscosity and classification.
- Remove spark plug(s), spray fogging agent, reinstall and tighten.
Return to Service maintenance
⚠ DO NOT USE TAP WATER IN THE BATTERY.
- Verify utility power is off and AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch is OFF.
- Check tag for oil viscosity and classification; refill if necessary.
- Check battery state; fill cells with distilled water and recharge to 100%.
- Clean and wipe entire generator.
- Ensure 7.5A fuse is removed; reconnect battery observing polarity.
- Open fuel shutoff valve.
- Insert 7.5A fuse and start unit in MANUAL; allow warm up.
- Stop unit, turn on utility power, set switch to AUTO.
Spark Plug Maintenance maintenance
⚠ Do not blast spark plug(s) to clean.
Tools: wire feeler gauge, wire brush
- Clean area around base of spark plug(s).
- Remove spark plug(s) and check condition.
- Replace if worn or reuse questionable.
- Clean by scraping or washing with wire brush and solvent.
- Check gap with wire feeler gauge.
- Adjust gap by bending ground electrode.
ATS Manual Operation operation
⚠ Do NOT manually transfer under load.
⚠ Do not use excessive force when operating manually.
Tools: manual handle
- Turn generator AUTO/OFF/MANUAL switch to OFF.
- Turn OFF UTILITY SERVICE DISCONNECT circuit breaker.
- Attach manual handle to moveable contact carrier arm.
- Move handle UP for UTILITY (NORMAL) position.
- Move handle DOWN for GENERATOR (STANDBY) position.
- Remove handle and return to storage bracket when finished.
