Adjusting Magneto Flywheel Gap adjustment

⚠ Air gap between ignition magneto and flywheel on single cylinder engines is not adjustable.

Tools: 0.008-0.012 inch thickness gauge

  1. Rotate the flywheel until the magnet is under the module (armature) laminations.
  2. Place a 0.008-0.012 inch (0.20-0.30mm) thickness gauge between flywheel magnet and module laminations.
  3. Loosen the mounting screws and let the magnet pull the magneto down against the thickness gauge.
  4. Tighten both mounting screws.
  5. To remove the thickness gauge, rotate the flywheel.
  6. Repeat the above procedure for the second magneto.
Adjusting Valve Clearance adjustment

⚠ Hold rocker arm jam nut in place as pivot ball stud is turned.

Tools: 10mm allen wrench, feeler gauge, socket wrench

  1. Engine should be cool before checking.
  2. Remove spark plug wires and position away from plugs.
  3. Remove spark plugs.
  4. Position piston at Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke.
  5. Remove four screws attaching valve cover.
  6. Loosen rocker jam nut.
  7. Turn pivot ball stud with 10mm allen wrench while checking clearance.
  8. Tighten jam nut to 174 in/lbs torque and recheck clearance.
Adjusting the Fuel Regulator - 7kW (Natural Gas Only) adjustment

⚠ Do not make any unnecessary adjustments. Factory settings are correct for most applications.

Tools: frequency meter

  1. Start the generator; let it stabilize and warm up at no-load.
  2. Connect a frequency meter across the generator's AC output leads.
  3. Turn the primary adjust screw to obtain a frequency reading.
Check and Adjust Engine Governor (Single Cylinder Units) adjustment

Tools: Frequency meter, torque wrench

  1. Loosen the governor clamp bolt.
  2. Hold the governor lever at wide open throttle position.
  3. Rotate the governor shaft clockwise as far as it will go.
  4. Tighten the governor lever clamp bolt to 70 inch-pounds (8 N-m).
  5. Start the generator; let it stabilize and warm up at no-load.
  6. Connect a frequency meter across the generator AC output leads.
  7. Turn the primary adjust screw to obtain a frequency of 61.5 Hz.
  8. Turn the secondary adjust screw to obtain a frequency of 62.5 Hz.
Check and Adjust Valves adjustment

Tools: 10mm allen wrench, flat feeler gauge, torque wrench

  1. Remove the four (4) screws from the rocker cover.
  2. Remove the rocker cover and rocker cover gasket.
  3. Loosen the rocker arm jam nut.
  4. Use a 10mm allen wrench to turn the pivot ball stud.
  5. Check clearance between rocker arm and valve stem with a flat feeler gauge.
  6. Set valve clearance to 0.05-0.1mm (0.002-0.004 in.) cold.
  7. Hold pivot ball stud with allen wrench and tighten rocker arm jam nut to 174 inch pounds.
  8. Recheck valve clearance to make sure it did not change.
  9. Re-install rocker cover gasket, rocker cover and the four screws.
Reconfiguring the Fuel System (8kW) adjustment

⚠ Gaseous fuels are highly explosive. No leakage permitted.

Tools: plastic T-handle fuel selector

  1. Turn off main gas supply.
  2. Open roof and remove door.
  3. Remove battery if installed.
  4. Insert T-handle pin into selector knob hole.
  5. Pull out to overcome spring pressure, twist clockwise 90 degrees.
  6. Allow selector to return once aligned with LP position.
  7. Save tool with Owner's Manual.
  8. Install battery, door, close roof; reverse to convert back.
Reconfiguring the Fuel System (V-twin) adjustment

⚠ Gaseous fuels are highly explosive. No leakage permitted.

  1. Open roof.
  2. For 10kW: loosen clamp, slide back air inlet hose.
  3. Slide fuel selector on carburetor out towards back of enclosure.
  4. Return inlet hose and tighten clamp securely.
  5. For 12-20kW: remove air cleaner cover.
  6. Slide selector lever out towards back of enclosure.
  7. Return air cleaner cover and tighten two thumb screws.
  8. Close roof; reverse to convert back.
Spark Plug Gap Adjustment adjustment

Tools: wire feeler gauge

  1. Check the spark plug gap using a wire feeler gauge.
  2. Adjust the gap by carefully bending the ground electrode.
Valve Lash Adjustment adjustment

Tools: 10mm Allen wrench (530cc engine) or 13mm Allen wrench (410cc, 990cc, 999cc engines), Feeler gauge, Torque wrench

  1. Remove spark plug wires and spark plugs
  2. Rotate flywheel nut clockwise to bring piston to TDC of compression stroke
  3. Ensure engine is at 60-80°F (16-27°C)
  4. Remove the four screws attaching the valve cover
  5. Loosen rocker jam nut, turn pivot ball stud while checking clearance with a feeler gauge
  6. Adjust to 0.002-0.004 in (0.05-0.1mm) clearance
  7. Hold pivot ball stud and tighten rocker arm jam nut to 174 in-lbs (19.68 N-m)
  8. Recheck valve clearance after tightening
  9. Install new valve cover gasket and reattach valve cover
  10. Install spark plugs and reattach spark plug wires
Electrical Checks diagnostic

⚠ Live transfer switch parts can cause fatal electrical shock

Tools: AC voltmeter, Frequency meter

  1. Ensure generator OFF, main breaker OFF
  2. Turn off breakers/loads powered by generator
  3. Turn on utility power to transfer switch
  4. Check utility voltage across N1/N2 (240 VAC) and N1/N2 to neutral (120 VAC)
  5. Turn off utility supply to simulate outage
  6. Push MANUAL button to start engine
  7. Let engine warm up 5 minutes, set main breaker ON
  8. Check voltage across E1/E2 (238-242V at 59.5-60.5 Hz) and E1/E2 to neutral (119-121V)
  9. Set main breaker OFF, push OFF button to shut down
Generator Tests Under Load diagnostic

Tools: AC voltmeter, Frequency meter

  1. Ensure generator OFF, all loads off
  2. Turn off utility power to transfer switch
  3. Manually set transfer switch to STANDBY position
  4. Push MANUAL button to crank and start
  5. Let engine stabilize, set main breaker ON
  6. Turn on loads one by one
  7. Check voltage (~240V) and frequency (~60 Hz) across E1/E2
  8. Run at full rated load 20-30 minutes, check for leaks/overheating
  9. Verify gas pressure under full load
  10. Turn off loads, set main breaker OFF, run no-load 2-5 minutes
  11. Push OFF button to shut down
