  • Warning Status Indicator: This yellow lamp is lit whenever the control detects a warning condition.
    Fix: After the condition is corrected, warning indicators can be reset by pressing the Fault Acknowledge button. (It is not necessary to stop the generator set if the fault becomes inactive during genset operation.)
  • Warning lamp lights.
    Cause: LOW COOLANT TEMP 210 – WARNING
    Fix: Set is in standby mode but is not operating. Warning occurs when engine coolant temperature is 70° F (21° C) or lower. NOTE: In applications where the ambient temperature falls below 40°F (4°C), Low Engine Temp may be indicated even though the coolant heaters are operating.

  • Shutdown Status Indicator: This red lamp is lit whenever the control detects a shutdown condition. The generator set can not be started when this lamp is on.
    Fix: After the condition is corrected, shutdown indicators can be reset by turning the 0/Manual/Auto switch to the 0 position, and pressing the Fault Acknowledge button.

Aligning Generator with Engine (Angular Alignment) adjustment

⚠ Accidental starting of the generator set during this procedure presents the hazard of severe personal injury or death.

Tools: Dial indicator, Shims

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable(s) before beginning.
  2. Fasten a dial indicator to the generator shaft or cooling fan with the sensing point on the capscrew head or flat surface of the drive disc at the bolt circle diameter.
  3. Bar the engine over in a clockwise rotation as viewed from engine flywheel; do not allow it to roll back on compression.
  4. Determine the total indicator reading (T.I.R.) as the sum of the maximum positive and negative dial indicator readings over one revolution.
  5. Measure the distance from the center of the generator shaft to the indicator measuring point.
  6. Measure the distance from the generator side of the flex discs to the center of the generator mounting bolt.
  7. Compare the distances; multiply this ratio times one half the T.I.R. to approximate the amount of shims to remove or add.
Angular Alignment Procedure (Generator to Engine) adjustment

⚠ Accidental starting during this procedure presents the hazard of severe personal injury or death.

⚠ Do not bar engine over by prying on fan blade.

Tools: dial indicator

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable(s) before beginning.
  2. Fasten a dial indicator to the generator shaft or cooling fan with sensing point resting on the drive disc capscrew head/flat surface at the bolt circle diameter.
  3. Bar the engine over in a clockwise rotation as viewed from the engine flywheel; do not allow it to roll back on compression at the end of travel of each reading.
  4. Record the total indicator reading (T.I.R.) as the sum of the maximum positive and negative dial indicator readings over one engine revolution.
  5. Compare the measured T.I.R. to the maximum allowed (.001 in. per inch of radius from center of shaft to indicator axis); add or remove shims under the generator mounting feet to correct.
Axial Alignment Procedure adjustment

Tools: dial indicator holding device with magnetic base or clamp

  1. Fasten dial indicator holding device to skid base, engine block, or generator shell with a magnetic base or clamp.
  2. Position so the sensor point of the indicator rests on the generator shaft hub.
  3. Bar the engine over in a clockwise rotation through a couple of rotations.
  4. Record indicator readings in eight equally spaced points around the shaft diameter.
  5. To correct out-of-tolerance T.I.R., remove the capscrews connecting drive discs and flywheel.
  6. Mark the drive discs and flywheel with respect to each other and rotate either the engine or generator so drive disc holes are repositioned 180 degrees from original location.
  7. Reinstall the drive disc capscrews and retorque; recheck shaft alignment. If unchanged, rotate discs 30, 60, or 90 degrees from original location.
Axial Alignment Procedure (Generator to Engine) adjustment

Tools: dial indicator

  1. Fasten a dial indicator holding device to the skid base, engine block, or generator shell with the sensor point resting on the generator shaft hub.
  2. Bar the engine over in a clockwise rotation through a couple of rotations, recording indicator readings at eight equally spaced points around the shaft diameter to obtain axial T.I.R.
  3. Reduce the measured T.I.R. runout by one half if excessive vibration remains after angular alignment.
Engine Brake Assembly - Adjust adjustment

⚠ To get maximum brake operating efficiency and to prevent engine damage, follow instructions in this section.

Tools: 3163530 Brake Feeler Gauge - 7.00 mm [0.276 in]

  1. Remove eight capscrews, isolator assemblies, rocker lever cover, and rocker lever cover gasket.
  2. Locate engine brake set marks: BRAKE SET 1-6, 2-5, 3-4.
  3. Rotate engine clockwise until set mark aligns with stamped mark on front gear cover.
  4. Verify both intake and exhaust valves on cylinder are closed and camshaft follower is on inner base circle.
  5. Press engine brake lever down to verify follower contacts camshaft.
  6. Loosen locknut on brake lever adjusting screw and back out one turn.
  7. Insert feeler gauge Part No. 3163530 between bottom of engine brake piston and top of exhaust valve pin.
  8. Tighten adjusting screw until drag on feeler gauge is felt.
  9. Hold adjusting screw and tighten locknut to 20 Nm [15 ft-lb]. Remove feeler gauge.
  10. Repeat on remaining cylinders.
  11. Install rocker lever cover gasket, cover, isolators, and capscrews. Tighten to 25 Nm [18 ft-lb].
Generator Mount Pre-Load Adjustment adjustment

⚠ Accidental starting of the generator set during this procedure presents the hazard of severe personal injury or death.

Tools: two 1 3/4 inch T x 2 inch W x 6 inch L steel spacers, adequate lifting device

  1. Turn off and disconnect battery charger (if equipped).
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable(s) to prevent accidental starting.
  3. Unscrew bolt (Item 2) from skid but do not remove it from either rear engine vibration isolator.
  4. Loosen the three screws that secure the engine mount brackets to the engine.
  5. Loosen but do not remove the hex nut (Item 1) from the M20 screw of the generator vibration isolators.
  6. Lift the generator until the mounting feet brackets are high enough to insert a 1 3/4 inch steel spacer under both stator foot brackets.
  7. Insert spacers and lower the generator so the full weight rests on the mounting foot brackets.
  8. Make sure no gap is present between the skid and the lower mount of the rear engine vibration isolators; tighten the three screws to 190-200 ft-lbs.
  9. Lift the generator to remove the two 1 3/4 inch steel spacers.
  10. Before lowering, start the threads of the rear engine vibration isolator bolts (Item 2).
  11. Lower the generator and tighten the two rear engine vibration isolator bolts to 270-330 ft-lbs.
  12. Secure the generator foot brackets to the vibration isolators; tighten the fastener to 270-330 ft-lbs.
Magnetic Pickup Adjustment adjustment

⚠ Jam nut over-torque will damage the magnetic pickup.

Tools: feeler gauge, torque wrench

  1. Ensure a ring gear tooth is centered under the magnetic pickup hole. Rotate flywheel if necessary.
  2. Screw the magnetic pickup in until it contacts the targeted gear tooth. Do not use excessive pressure.
  3. Back the magnetic pickup out (counterclockwise) 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
  4. If a feeler gauge can be inserted between the magnetic pickup and the flywheel ring gear tooth, back the magnetic pickup out 0.71 to 1.07 mm [0.028 to 0.042 in.] from the gear tooth.
  5. Tighten the jam nut on the flywheel housing. While holding the magnetic pickup, torque the jam nut to 34-47 N-m [25-35 ft-lb].
Overhead Set - Adjust adjustment

⚠ Do not use solvent to clean rocker cover gasket.

⚠ Batteries can emit explosive gases. Disconnect battery before service.

Tools: 3375044 Torque Wrench, Feeler gauge

  1. Disconnect battery.
  2. Locate valve set marks on outside of vibration damper: A adjusts cylinders 1 or 6, B adjusts cylinders 2 or 5, C adjusts cylinders 3 or 4.
  3. Rotate engine clockwise to align set mark with pointer. Check both valves are closed.
  4. Loosen injector adjusting screw locknut. Use dial-type torque wrench to tighten injector rocker lever adjusting screw.
  5. Back out adjusting screw one or two turns. Tighten injector adjusting screw to 8 Nm [70 in-lb].
  6. Hold injector lever adjusting screw and tighten locknut to 75 Nm [55 ft-lb].
  7. Set valves on same cylinder using feeler gauge: intake 0.36 mm [0.014 in], exhaust 0.69 mm [0.027 in].
  8. Tighten valve adjusting screw to 0.6 Nm [5 in-lb]. Hold screw and tighten locknut to 45 Nm [33 ft-lb].
  9. Repeat for all cylinders following firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4.
Bus Voltage Calibration (C) diagnostic

Tools: calibrated voltmeter

  1. Display the Bus Voltage Calibration submenu.
  2. With all gensets OFF, attach a calibrated voltmeter to TB1-A (L1) and TB1-B (L2) of the bus PT module.
  3. Start another genset and allow it to reach normal operating speed and voltage. Connect to the bus.
  4. Calibrate the voltage reading for Bus Volts L1 so the display matches the calibrated meter.
  5. Shut the generator set OFF.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for Bus Volts L2 and L3.

Tools: True RMS meter, Insulated wrench, Jumper leads

  1. Verify power to control: Control Alive indicator should be flashing on base board.
  2. Clean battery cable terminals and tighten connections using an insulated wrench.
  3. Remove F4 and check continuity; if open, replace with same type/amp rating (5 Amps).
  4. If F4 OK, remove connector P7 and check B+ at P7-1 to P7-4 and GND at P7-5 to P7-8.
  5. If B+/ground missing, isolate to harness and TB BAT terminal on engine block.
