Before you start
- Mechanical overtightening of filter can distort threads or damage filter element seal.
Procedure
- Use correct filter(s): Cummins Part No. 3331096 or Fleetguard Nelson FS1007.
- Apply thin coating of clean engine oil to filter gasket surface.
- Fill filter with clean fuel prior to installation.
- Install filter onto filter head. Turn until gasket contacts filter head surface.
- Tighten filter additional 3/4 turn after gasket contacts.
- Rotate water-in-fuel sensor to desired location and connect wiring harness.
- Remove external hex plug on top of integrated fuel system module. Crank engine until solid stream of fuel comes out. Reinstall hex plug.
- Crank engine for 20 seconds. If engine does not start, wait 2 minutes and repeat steps.
