Northern Lights Serial & Model Number Guide
Every Northern Lights generator carries a model/serial label. Here is where to find it, what each part of the number means, and how to use it for parts, service and age.
What the number means
Worked example — NL753W2:
| Part | Meaning | Detail |
|---|---|---|
NL | Application | NL = Northern Lights industrial generator set (M = marine generator set instead, e.g. M673D). |
753 | Engine block — bore & cylinders | Bore in millimeters (75) plus a fixed cylinder-count digit (3) — the same pattern confirmed across Northern Lights' own manuals for the 643/673/753/773 blocks (64/67/75/77 mm bore, all 3-cylinder). |
W | Winding | Designates an auxiliary winding in the generator end, per Northern Lights' own model-numbers legend. |
2 | Emissions tier | EPA Tier II (a trailing 3 = Tier III), per the same legend. |
Using the serial number
Model numbers give the unit's application, block model, aspiration, and RPM, per Northern Lights' own "Model Numbers" page included in every operator/parts manual. No public serial-to-build-date formula was found — quote the generator-set plate serial for parts.
Common Northern Lights maintenance parts
The service parts Northern Lights's own documents list across more than one generator model. Confirm the number for your unit on its model page or data plate before ordering.
