Before you start
- Be careful not to let the frame assembly rest or drag on the armature.
- Do not hit the collector rings, commutator, bearing or windings.
Procedure
- Remove the generator band and end bell cover.
- Remove all brush springs and lift the brushes from their holders.
- Remove the generator through-stud nuts and remove the end bell and frame as one assembly from the adapter.
- Remove the baffle ring from the adapter.
- Turn the armature through-stud nut out to the end of the through stud.
- Strike a sharp endwise blow on the nut with a heavy soft-faced hammer to loosen the armature.
- Wipe clean and visually inspect all parts.
