Procedures
6Change Oil maintenance
⚠ Hot oil may cause burns
- Clean area around oil drain cap
- Remove oil drain cap and oil fill plug; drain oil completely
- Install and tighten oil drain cap
- Remove oil filter by turning counterclockwise; discard properly
- Coat gasket of new filter with clean oil; turn clockwise until gasket contacts, then tighten additional 3/4 turn
- Fill oil sump with recommended oil and replace oil fill plug
- Wipe up spilled oil
- Dispose of used oil properly
Clean Spark Arrestor Screen maintenance
- Loosen clamp and remove spark arrestor screen from muffler
- Inspect screen; replace if torn/perforated/damaged; clean with commercial solvent if not damaged
- Replace spark arrestor and secure with clamp
Prepare for Long Term Storage maintenance
⚠ Never store engine with fuel in tank indoors near open flame
- Remove all gasoline from fuel tank
- Start and run engine until it stops from lack of fuel
- Allow engine to cool, drain oil from crankcase, refill with recommended grade
- Remove spark plug, pour ~1/2 oz (15 ml) oil into cylinder, pull recoil starter a couple times
- Install and tighten spark plug; do not connect wire
- Clean generator outer surfaces
- Store unit in a clean, dry place
Replace Spark Plug maintenance
- Stop engine and pull spark plug wire off
- Remove four socket head screws and take off side panel
- Clean area around spark plug and remove it
- Set gap to 0.030 in (0.76 mm) and install
- Push boot firmly on spark plug and install side panel
Service Air Filter maintenance
- Remove air filter cover and remove paper filter
- Clean paper filter by tapping gently; replace if too dirty
- Clean air filter cover, insert new/cleaned filter, re-install cover
Replace Battery repair
⚠ Drain fuel outdoors away from open flame
- Remove side panel and remove four bolts securing fuel tank
- Turn fuel valve OFF; pull fuel tank back and remove fuel hose
- Drain fuel into approved container outdoors
- Disconnect recovery hose from rollover valve
- Push fuel valve from control panel and remove fuel tank
- Remove battery wire connections (black wire first) and hold-down bracket
- Replace battery, connecting red wire to positive and black wire to negative
