Procedures
12Electronic Governor Adjustment (Type 1) adjustment
- Push both selector switches (S1, S2) on the controller to their OFF positions.
- Set the pots initially: Gain 20%, I 20%, D 30%, Droop 0%.
- If a remote speed pot is used, set it at its midpoint.
- Start the set and adjust the Speed pot to obtain the required output frequency: 60 Hertz (1800 RPM) or 50 Hertz (1500 RPM).
- Warm up the set under load until it is up to normal operating temperature.
- Disconnect the load and turn the GAIN pot to 100 percent or until operation becomes unstable, then turn it counterclockwise until stable.
- Adjust D as in the GAIN step.
- Adjust I as in the GAIN step.
- Readjust Speed if necessary.
- Push the throttle to minimum speed position and hold until minimum speed; release and observe overshoot (2 to 5 Hertz may be acceptable).
- If overshoot is unacceptable, turn the I pot clockwise slightly to reduce overshoot.
- If the set hunts during steady state, turn the I pot counterclockwise slightly until stable.
Electronic Governor Adjustment (Type 2) adjustment
- Turn the Start Fuel Limit pot fully clockwise; it requires no further adjustment.
- Set the pots initially: Gain mid-position, Stability mid-position, Rated Speed fully counterclockwise.
- If a remote speed pot is used, set to fully counterclockwise position.
- Start the set and adjust the Rated Speed pot to obtain the required output frequency: 60 Hertz (1800 RPM) or 50 Hertz (1500 RPM).
- Warm up the set under load until it is up to normal operating temperature.
- Disconnect the load and turn the Gain pot fully clockwise or until unstable, then turn counterclockwise until stable.
- Adjust Stability as in the Gain step.
- Readjust Rated Speed if necessary.
- Push the throttle to minimum speed and hold until minimum speed; release and observe overshoot (2 to 5 Hertz may be acceptable).
- If overshoot is unacceptable, turn the Gain pot clockwise slightly to reduce overshoot.
- If the set oscillates during steady state, turn the Stability pot counterclockwise slightly until stable.
Mechanical Governor Adjustment adjustment
- Turn the governor idle and speed adjusting screws while the engine runs at normal operating temperature under full load.
- Adjust droop to within five percent of nominal frequency (3 Hertz for 60 Hertz sets and 2.5 Hertz for 50 Hertz sets).
- Check operation under various loads and increase droop if the governor hunts.
- Readjust full-load frequency if droop is adjusted.
Output Frequency (Governor) Adjustment adjustment
- Warm up the set under partial load (at least 1/4 rated load).
- Turn the Speed potentiometer to obtain specified frequency (60 Hertz - 1800 RPM or 50 Hertz - 1500 RPM).
- Turn the Gain potentiometer clockwise until the governor begins to hunt, then turn it back until there is no audible hunting.
- Connect 1/4 rated load and readjust the Gain potentiometer if necessary.
- Connect rated load in one step; shut down the set if it cannot pick up the load, lengthen the governor rod by half turns of the swivel ends and repeat until it picks up rated load.
- Back off the governor full speed stop screw if necessary.
- Check for stability (no audible hunting) under various loads.
- Stop the set and wait 30 seconds for the turbo to coast down, restart and check for speed overshoot; check for binding in the governor rod if overspeed shutdown occurs.
Output Voltage Adjustment adjustment
⚠ Do not make adjustments in the control panel or on engine with unit running.
- Adjust the output voltage plus or minus five percent of nominal voltage using the adjustment screw on the back of the power supply outlet box.
- Call your distributor if the required voltage cannot be obtained by this adjustment.
Battery Connections for 24 Volt Systems installation
⚠ Accidental starting can cause severe personal injury or death. Disconnect the starting battery cables (negative (-) first).
⚠ Do not smoke near batteries.
- Connect two 12 volt batteries in series to obtain 24 volts.
- Secure the negative battery cable to the starter or to the engine block.
- Remove paint, rust or grease under the connector so that it touches bare metal.
- As the last step, connect the negative (-) battery cable to the engine.
Magnetic Speed Pickup Installation installation
- Bar the engine until a gear tooth on the flywheel lines up in the center of the mounting hole.
- Thread the sensor in gently by hand until it just touches the gear tooth.
- Back it out one quarter turn and set the lock nut.
Bleeding Fuel System Air maintenance
⚠ Diesel fuel is highly combustible. Do not smoke near fuel tanks and fuel lines.
- Loosen the fuel line fitting at the filter head.
- Pump the priming lever on the fuel lift pump until fuel starts flowing from the fitting and is free of air.
Bleeding System Air maintenance
⚠ Diesel fuel is highly combustible.
- Loosen the fuel line fitting at the filter head.
- Pump the priming lever on the fuel lift pump until fuel starts flowing from the fitting and is free of air.
Checking Battery Specific Gravity maintenance
⚠ Battery gases are explosive and can cause severe personal injury if ignited.
⚠ Wear protective goggles, rubber gloves and an apron.
- Add distilled water as necessary and check the specific gravity.
- Recharge the batteries if the specific gravity is less than 1.260.
- Clean and tighten the battery terminals and cable connectors and coat with Vaseline to retard corrosion.
Cleaning Air Filters (Platinum) maintenance
Tools: Hose clamp
- Loosen the hose clamp to remove the smaller filter and the three retaining springs for the larger filter.
- Cover the inlet openings to prevent the entrance of dirt or debris.
- Run low pressure water, warm or cold, from inside to outside (opposite the normal airflow direction).
- Detergent can be used as long as the filter is thoroughly rinsed with clean water.
- Always allow the air filter to dry before use; do not use compressed air to dry a wet filter.
Engine Oil and Filter Change maintenance
⚠ Used engine oils have been identified as causing cancer or reproductive toxicity
Tools: Filter wrench
- Run the engine until it is up to operating temperature and shut it off.
- Open the oil drain valve and drain the oil into a suitable container.
- Remove the oil filter with a filter wrench.
- Fill the new filter with oil and apply a film of oil to the gasket.
- Screw the filter on by hand until the gasket just touches the filter head; tighten another 3/4 turn.
- Close the oil drain valve and fill with oil to the high mark (H) on the dipstick.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
- Shut off the engine and wait for 10 minutes; refill to the high mark (H) if necessary.
