Adjusting the valve clearance at Kubota 02 series adjustment

⚠ Mark valves already checked

Tools: Wrench W.A.F. 10 mm, Spanner W.A.F. 11 mm, Flat screwdriver, Feeler gauge

  1. Unscrew valve cover.
  2. Rotate crankshaft until valve to be adjusted is fully open; determine dead centre.
  3. Rotate crankshaft 360°; valve is then closed.
  4. Check valve clearance with feeler gauge; cold clearance 0.145 mm to 0.185 mm.
  5. Loosen counter nut; adjust with rocker arm screw; retighten counter nut; recheck.
  6. Repeat for other valves; refit valve cover and firmly tighten screws.
Adjusting valve clearance at Kubota 02 series adjustment

⚠ Engine must be cold

Tools: 10 mm wrench, 11 mm wrench, flat screwdriver, feeler gauge

  1. Remove valve cover with 10 mm wrench.
  2. Rotate crankshaft until valve to adjust is fully open; determine dead centre.
  3. Rotate crankshaft 360°; valve is then closed.
  4. Check clearance with feeler gauge; cold clearance 0.145-0.185 mm.
  5. Loosen counter nut with 11 mm wrench; adjust with screw; retighten counter nut.
  6. Recheck clearance; repeat for other valves; refit valve cover.
Accessing error memory diagnostic

⚠ Error memory cannot be deleted

  1. Press Cursor Down immediately after switching on while panda bear is displayed.
  2. Navigate setup menu with Cursor-Up/Down.
  3. Select Error mem. and confirm with Start/Stop.
  4. Errors are displayed in plain text preceded by operating hour; newest first.
  5. Return to standby page with Start/Stop key.
Connecting starter battery block installation

⚠ Wrong battery connection can cause short-circuit and fire

⚠ First connect cables at generator, then at battery

Tools: Fuse, Battery circuit breaker, Protective pipe/sleeve

  1. Install separate starter battery for generator.
  2. Connect positive cable directly to solenoid switch of starter motor.
  3. Connect negative cable underneath starter motor at engine mount.
  4. Install fuse and battery circuit breaker in positive cable within 300 mm of battery.
  5. Protect cable with protective pipe/sleeve against chafing.
  6. Use self-extinguishing fire-protected cables suitable up to 90 °C.
  7. Make test run and check cable laying.
Connecting two 12V batteries to a 24V battery bank installation

⚠ Observe correct polarity; risk of short circuit and fire

  1. Connect (+) cable of first battery.
  2. Connect (-) cable of second battery.
  3. Connect (+) cable of second battery.
  4. Connect (-) cable of first battery.
  5. Disconnect in reverse procedure.
How to connect two 12V batteries to a 24V battery bank installation

⚠ Observe correct connection sequence to avoid short-circuit and fire

  1. Connect (+) cable of first battery.
  2. Connect (-) cable of second battery.
  3. Connect (+) cable of second battery.
  4. Connect (-) cable of first battery.
  5. Disconnect batteries in reverse procedure.
Check and discharge the capacitors maintenance

⚠ Charged capacitors can be lethal

⚠ Do not touch capacitor terminals with bare fingers or non-insulated metallic objects

Tools: Multimeter with capacitor measuring, Discharge reactor 5-10 kOhm, Insulated pliers or screwdriver

  1. Never check capacitors while generator motor is running.
  2. Disconnect terminal lead wires using insulated pliers or screwdriver.
  3. Discharge capacitors by bridging terminals with discharge reactor.
  4. For three-phase capacitors discharge between every phase L1-L2, L2-L3, L1-L3.
  5. Set multimeter to capacitor measuring and connect probes to capacitor terminals.
  6. Measure capacity of each capacitor in electrical cabinet.
Checking oil level maintenance

⚠ Burn hazard: generator and coolant can be hot

Tools: Paper towels / cloth

  1. Place generator or vehicle level; for marine, ensure ship is not lop-sided.
  2. Run generator about 10 minutes, then wait 3 minutes for oil to drain back.
  3. Assure generator against accidental start and open casing.
  4. Pull out oil dipstick, clean it, reinsert, wait 10 seconds, and read level.
  5. Oil level should be 2/3 between min and max; refill if below 1/3.
Checking oil-level maintenance

⚠ Burn hazard: generator and coolant can be hot.

Tools: paper towels/cloth, oil dipstick

  1. Place generator level; for marine generators measure when ship is not lop-sided.
  2. Run generator about 10 minutes to warm engine, then wait 3 minutes.
  3. Secure generator against accidental start and open casing.
  4. Pull oil dipstick, clean it, reinsert and wait 10 seconds.
  5. Read oil level at lower end of stick; recommended level 2/3 between min and max.
Clean raw water filter maintenance
  1. Close water cock.
  2. Release raw water filter regularly from arrears.
  3. Beat the filter basket; if water seeps through cover check sealing ring and replace if needed.
  4. Do not seal cover with adhesive or sealant.
First filling and ventilation of internal cooling water circuit maintenance

⚠ Risk of scalding; hot cooling water can leak

⚠ Check circulation; air bubbles can cause overheating

Tools: Coolant

  1. Fill external cooling water expansion tank with coolant to max mark.
  2. Open cover of external expansion tank temporarily; all other closures closed.
  3. Open venting screw at thermostat housing.
  4. Close vent screw when air-free water comes out; check expansion tank level.
  5. Start generator and run approx. 10 seconds without load, then switch off.
  6. Repeat steps 1-4 until no more air comes out.
  7. Fill expansion tank to max mark and close.
  8. Repeat ventilation process 10 operating hours after first start-up and if necessary.
