Procedures

12
Accessing error memory on iControl2 diagnostic
  1. Switch on controller while panda bear start screen is displayed.
  2. Press Cursor Down immediately to open set-up menu.
  3. Navigate with Cursor Up/Down; selected item is marked with two asterisks.
  4. Select 'Error mem.' and confirm with Start/Stop button.
  5. Read stored errors preceded by operating hour.
  6. Return to standby page with Start/Stop key.
Isolation test diagnostic

⚠ Electrical voltages above 50 V are dangerous; only an electrician may carry out electrical connections.

Tools: voltmeter set to Volt/AC

  1. Switch off all electrical load.
  2. Start the generator.
  3. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and AC-Control box.
  4. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and ground.
  5. Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
  6. Check safety systems and RCD; check phases against each other and against ground.
Connect starter battery installation

⚠ Disconnect negative terminal first; observe correct polarity.

  1. Install separate starter battery near generator.
  2. Connect positive cable to starter solenoid.
  3. Connect negative cable to engine foot.
  4. Install fuse and battery circuit breaker in positive cable within 300 mm of battery.
  5. Confirm battery voltage matches start system (12 V or 24 V).
First filling and ventilation of internal cooling water circuit installation

⚠ Risk of scalding: expansion tank cap has pressure relief valve at 500 mbar.

⚠ Check circulation during venting; air bubbles can stop cooling water circulation.

  1. Fill external cooling water expansion tank with coolant to max. marking.
  2. Open cover of external expansion tank temporarily.
  3. Start electrical water pump using Prime Fuel option in iControl panel.
  4. Open venting screw at thermostat housing; close when air-free water comes out.
  5. Check water level in expansion tank during venting; refill if necessary.
  6. Start generator and run without load for approx. 10 seconds; switch off.
  7. Repeat steps 1-4 until no more air comes out of venting screw.
  8. Run generator at idle until cooling water temperature reaches 60 °C; stop.
  9. Fill expansion tank to max. marking and close.
  10. Re-ventilate 10 operating hours after first start-up and if necessary.
First filling and ventilation of the internal cooling water circuit installation

⚠ Risk of scalding; expansion tank cap has a 500 mbar pressure relief valve.

⚠ Check that cooling water is circulating during venting.

  1. Fill the external cooling water expansion tank with coolant to the max marking.
  2. Open the venting screw at the thermostat housing.
  3. Close the vent screw when air-free water comes out.
  4. Start the generator unloaded for approximately 10 seconds and stop it.
  5. Repeat filling and venting until no more air comes out.
  6. Run the generator at idle until cooling water at the engine reaches 60°C.
  7. Stop the generator, fill the expansion tank to max, and close it.
  8. Repeat the venting process 10 operating hours after first start-up if necessary.
Isolation test after installation installation

⚠ Only an electrician may carry out installation of electrical connections.

Tools: voltmeter

  1. Switch off all electrical load.
  2. Start generator.
  3. Measure AC voltage with voltmeter between generator housing and AC-Control box.
  4. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and ground.
  5. Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
  6. Check installed safety systems and RCD if present.
Perform isolation test installation

⚠ Only electrician may perform electrical connection work.

Tools: Voltmeter

  1. Switch off all electrical loads.
  2. Start generator.
  3. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and AC control box.
  4. Measure between generator housing and ground.
  5. Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
  6. Test RCD and phase-to-phase/ground connections if installed.
Vent cooling water circuit at first filling installation

⚠ Risk of scalding; hot coolant may escape.

Tools: Protective clothing

  1. Fill external expansion tank to max marking.
  2. Open venting screw at thermostat housing.
  3. Start electric water pump using Prime Fuel.
  4. Close vent screw when air-free water emerges.
  5. Start generator unloaded for about 10 seconds; stop.
  6. Repeat steps until no air emerges.
  7. Run at idle until engine coolant reaches 60 °C.
  8. Fill expansion tank to max and close.
Battery charging and storage maintenance

⚠ Deep discharge may damage the battery.

⚠ Do not charge frozen batteries; heat to +16°C first.

  1. Disconnect battery from generator for long-term standstill.
  2. Charge battery regularly; follow battery manufacturer notes.
  3. Check acid level before charging and refill cells with distilled water if necessary.
  4. Keep battery clean and dry; lubricate terminals with acid-free grease.
Change engine oil and oil filter maintenance

⚠ Burn hazard; used oil is toxic; dispose properly.

Tools: 17 mm open-ended wrench, Oil filter wrench, Container, Paper towels

  1. Run engine until 60 °C; secure against start.
  2. Open casing and place oil-resistant mat and container.
  3. Loosen oil filler cap and open oil drain screw with 17 mm wrench.
  4. Drain all oil.
  5. Remove old oil filter with filter wrench.
  6. Clean filter holder; oil new filter seal; screw on by hand.
  7. Refit drain screw with new seal; fill engine oil.
  8. Run 10 min, stop, recheck oil level.
Check battery and cable connections maintenance

⚠ Batteries contain corrosive acid; wear eye protection and protective clothing.

  1. Keep battery clean and dry.
  2. Remove dirty clamps.
  3. Clean terminal posts and clamps and grease with acid-free and acid-resistant grease.
  4. Reassemble and ensure clamps make good contact; tighten clamp bolts hand-tight.
Check engine oil level maintenance

⚠ Burn hazard: engine oil may be hot.

Tools: Paper towels/cloth

  1. Place generator level; secure against accidental start.
  2. Open casing and unscrew oil dipstick.
  3. Clean dipstick and reinsert without screwing in; wait 10 seconds.
  4. Pull out and read oil level.
