Procedures

12
Adjustment of the maximum upper speed adjustment

⚠ Adjustment should not be changed; warranty may expire.

Tools: SW 10 wrench, Voltmeter 300 V AC

  1. Disconnect plug at actuator electrical supply line.
  2. Unclamp countering nut at limitation screw with SW 10 wrench.
  3. Connect voltmeter with range to 300 V AC to AC outlet in electrical cabinet.
  4. Ensure no electrical load is connected.
  5. Start generator.
  6. Turn actuator spindle manually until voltmeter reads 270 V.
  7. Turn limit stop screw tight against limit stop point at speed regulator lever.
  8. Secure limit stop screw with countering nut.
  9. Check voltage is limited to max. 270 V without load.
Adjustment of the normal speed limitation adjustment

⚠ Reconnect actuator plug after adjustment.

Tools: Two SW 14 wrenches, Voltmeter 300 V AC

  1. Disconnect plug at actuator electrical supply line.
  2. Unclamp countering nuts with two SW 14 wrenches.
  3. Connect voltmeter with range to 300 V AC to AC outlet; ensure no load.
  4. Start generator.
  5. Turn actuator spindle manually until voltmeter reads 220 V.
  6. Screw both nuts tight.
  7. Check lower voltage is limited to min. 220 V without load.
  8. For upper limitation, proceed as before and tighten countering nuts at max. 270 V without load.
Speed sensor installation adjustment

⚠ Do not screw sensor tip into root of gear tooth.

Tools: Spanners

  1. Align speed sensor tip with tip of gear tooth.
  2. Screw in sensor until it touches tooth tip.
  3. Turn screw anticlockwise half a turn (0.3 to 0.8 mm).
  4. Hold with counter nut.
Checking generator voltage diagnostic

Tools: voltmeter

  1. Guarantee connection to electrical system is interrupted.
  2. Remove all conductors in generator power terminal box.
  3. Connect starter battery to generator.
  4. Start generator.
  5. Measure voltage between phase(s) and N with voltmeter.
  6. If values are substantially below Table 8.2.1, accept coil damage.
Checking the capacitor diagnostic

⚠ Capacitors must be discharged before touching.

Tools: multimeter with capacitor measuring

  1. Ensure capacitors are discharged before touching.
  2. Visually check for leaking dielectric or capacitor becoming longer.
  3. Set multimeter to pass; connect test prods to both capacitor contacts.
  4. Observe short beep when charging; reverse poles and observe short beep again.
  5. If steady sound or no sound is heard, capacitor is defective and must be replaced.
  6. Use capacity measuring instrument to confirm full capacity; replace capacitors not achieving imprinted capacity.
Checking the fuel solenoid valve diagnostic
  1. Locate fuel solenoid valve in front of injection pump.
  2. Remove small retention screw and plug from solenoid for a short period while operating.
  3. Replace plug immediately.
  4. Motor should react immediately by revving high.
  5. If motor does not react sharply, solenoid valve may be faulty.
Checking the generator voltage diagnostic

Tools: voltmeter

  1. Guarantee that connection to the electrical system is interrupted.
  2. Remove all conductors in the power terminal box of the generator.
  3. Connect starter battery to generator.
  4. Start the generator.
  5. Measure voltage between phase(s) and N with a voltmeter.
  6. If measured values are substantially below Table E.2.1 values, accept coil damage.
Discharge the capacitors diagnostic

⚠ Never work at the electrical cabinet when the generator is running.

⚠ Do not contact the capacitor before it is discharged.

Tools: isolated screwdriver

  1. Switch off generator.
  2. Disconnect starter battery.
  3. Open generator power terminal box and remove caps.
  4. Short circuit the two capacitor contacts using the cone end of an isolated screwdriver.
Isolation test diagnostic

⚠ Electrical hazard; qualified personnel only.

Tools: Voltmeter

  1. Switch off all electrical load.
  2. Start generator.
  3. Measure AC voltage between generator housing and AC-Control box, and between housing and ground.
  4. Measured voltage must not exceed 50 mV.
  5. Test RCD and check phases if installed.
Connecting two 12V batteries to a 24V battery bank installation

⚠ Wrong battery connection can cause short-circuit and fire.

  1. Connect (+) cable of first battery.
  2. Connect (-) cable of second battery.
  3. Connect (+) cable of second battery.
  4. Connect (-) cable of first battery.
  5. Disconnect batteries in reverse procedure.
Connection of 12V starter battery installation

⚠ Do not disconnect battery during operation.

⚠ Do not use Gel-Cel batteries.

  1. Connect positive battery cable directly to solenoid switch of starter; use protective tube.
  2. Connect battery negative to connection point next to water connection block.
  3. Install correctly sized fuse in positive battery line close to battery, max 12 inch/300 mm.
  4. Use multi-core stranded wire only; battery-to-DC-system line cross-section 25 mm².
  5. Protect battery lines against heat, vibration and chafing.
Connection of the 12V starter battery installation

⚠ Do not disconnect the battery during operation.

  1. Connect positive battery cable directly to solenoid switch of starter; use prepared protective tube.
  2. Connect negative battery cable to connection point at engine foot.
  3. Install a right-sized fuse in positive battery line as close as possible to battery, maximum 12 inch or 300 mm.
  4. Use multi-core stranded wire only; protect cable from heat, vibration and chafing.
  5. Check battery cable after installation for possible damage.
