Common problems

Mast Lights On But the Light Output is Low
Cause: Fixture and/or lens is dirty
Fix: Clean reflective surface inside fixture and both inside and outside surface of glass lens. Use mild soap and water to clean lens. Other chemicals may have an adverse effect on the glass.
Mast light is too hot.
Fix: Allow light to cool 10-15 minutes before restarting.
Faulty bulb connection.
Fix: Check that the bulb is tight in the socket.
Bulb broken.
Fix: Check for broken arc tube or outer bulb jacket, broken or loose components in bulb envelope or blackening/deposits inside tube.
Water Sedimenter - Drain Water
Fix: Drain Water From Water Sediment Separator
Unit cranks, but will not start
Cause: Fuel level low
Fix: Check fuel level in tank. Verify fuel pump operation.
Restricted air filter
Fix: Inspect air filter for blockage. Refer to OEM engine operator’s manual for additional information.
Overspeed or Underspeed Shutdown
Cause: Frequency setting incorrect
Fix: Disconnect all loads and restart unit. Read frequency (Hz) in the LCD window on controller. Frequency should read 60 Hz. If frequency is above 60 Hz, engine speed will need to be adjusted. Refer to the engine operator’s manual for throttle adjustment information.
Oil pressure switch failure
Fix: Refer to OEM engine operator’s manual to identify corrective action.
Oil leaking from engine
Fix: Visually inspect the engine for leaks.
Mast lights ON, low light output

Fix: Clean reflective surface inside fixture and both inside and outside surface of glass lens. Use mild soap and water to clean lens. Other chemicals may have an adverse effect on the glass. Replace lamp. Check the mast coil cord, mast junction box and mast light connections. Check the incoming voltage to the ballast. Incoming voltage should be 120V ±5V. If the voltage is incorrect, the engine speed may need to be adjusted or the generator may require service. The voltage from the transformer should read approximately 400VAC as the light “strikes” (induces an arc), then drop and slowly rise back up to stabilize at 240-260VAC. On hard wired models, remove the mast junction box cover and insert the wire probes into the connector blocks for the light and ground. If proper voltage is not achieved, perform capacitor check to determine if the capacitor or coil needs to be replaced.

Procedures

Light Tower Set Up installation

⚠ The tower extends up to 30 ft (9.14 m). Make sure area above trailer is clear of overhead wires.

Locate tower at ground level or higher than area being illuminated.
Place trailer on firm, level ground; block the wheels.
Rotate tongue jack 90 degrees and raise trailer tongue off tow vehicle.
Connect a good earthen ground to the grounding stud on the frame.
Pull outrigger locking pins and extend outriggers until pins snap in.
Rotate rear jack and level trailer using all four jacks.
Adjust lamps with wing nuts; tighten hardware; connect to junction box.

Daily Inspection maintenance

Inspect electrical cords; do not use if insulation is cut or worn.
Check winch cables centered on each pulley; replace kinked cables.
Check safety pins and mast lock bar spring.
Check the fuel, oil and coolant levels.
Check wheel lugs; tighten or replace any that are loose or missing.

Jack Maintenance maintenance

Winch Preventive Maintenance maintenance

⚠ Replace cable immediately if damaged

Engine Starting and Operation operation

⚠ Never start the engine with any of the circuit breakers switched on!

⚠ Do not crank the engine longer than 10 seconds at a time.

Check engine oil, fuel and coolant levels.
Check the condition of the electrical cord inside the unit.
Confirm main breaker and individual light breakers are OFF.
Turn key to GLOW PLUG and hold until glow plug indicator turns red.
Turn key to START and hold until engine cranks and runs; release key.
Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature before switching on loads.

Lifting the Trailer operation

Tools: Slings, Chains, Hooks

Make sure lifting equipment has sufficient capacity.
Make sure the cradle locking pin is in place.
Attach slings, chains or hooks directly to the central lifting eye.
Use upper or lower forklift pockets, approaching perpendicular to the unit.
Remain aware of the position of other people and objects around you.

Light Operation operation

⚠ Never operate the lights without the protective lens cover or with a cracked or damaged lens cover!

With engine warm and running smoothly, switch main circuit breaker to ON.
Switch each individual light circuit breaker to ON, one at a time.
Ballast indicator lights come on as the lights strike.
Allow 5-15 minutes warm up for full light output.
Wipe bulbs with a clean cloth when replacing to avoid residue.

Lowering the Mast operation

⚠ STOP IMMEDIATELY if mast hangs up or winch cable develops slack

Shut down lights and engine, allow lights to cool 10-15 minutes
Loosen mast rotation knob, align white arrows until stop tabs touch, tighten knob
Turn upper mast winch handle counterclockwise to collapse mast to lowest position
Release mast lock by pulling safety pin, turn lower mast winch handle counterclockwise until mast rests in transport cradle
Insert mast cradle locking pin and secure with safety pin

Lowering the Tower operation

⚠ If the mast hangs up or winch cable develops slack, STOP IMMEDIATELY!

Shut down lights and engine; allow lights to cool 10-15 minutes.
Turn upper mast winch handle to collapse tower to lowest position.
Loosen mast rotation knob; rotate mast so winches face front; tighten knob.
Release mast lock; lower mast with lower winch until it rests in cradle.
Insert cradle lock pin and secure it with the safety pin.

Lowering the Tower with Optional Electric Winch operation

⚠ If the cable develops slack or sections get stuck, STOP IMMEDIATELY!

Shut down lights and engine; allow lights to cool 10-15 minutes.
Loosen mast rotation knob; rotate mast so winches face front; tighten knob.
Press and hold upper winch toggle down to collapse the mast.
Release mast lock bar; hold lower winch toggle right to lower mast into cradle.
Insert cradle lock pin and secure it with the safety pin.

Raising the Mast operation

⚠ Never raise or lower mast while unit is operating

⚠ Do not extend mast beyond colored mark on middle mast tube

Set up and level the unit with outriggers extended
Remove mast cradle locking pin from mast cradle
Check mast cables for wear/damage, ensure properly centered in pulleys, check electrical cord
Ensure area around unit is clear before raising mast to vertical
Remove safety pin from mast lock bar, use lower mast winch handle to raise mast until vertical and locked, secure with safety pin
Use upper mast winch to telescope mast to desired height, extending slowly
Rotate mast by loosening mast rotation knob, turn to desired direction, tighten knob
