Every SDMO generator carries a model/serial label. Here is where to find it, what each part of the number means, and how to use it for parts, service and age.
What the number means
Worked example — V550:

Using the serial number
No source found decodes SDMO's trailing suffix letters (e.g. FRZ4, U, TE) beyond the prefix + kVA scheme above, and this decode is dealer-sourced, not an official SDMO/Kohler document — confirmed genuine Kohler spec sheets for related REOZK/REOZJ models carry no nomenclature table at all. Note: some SDMO documentation lists the model field as the John Deere ENGINE model fitted inside the set (e.g. 4045DF270, 6068HFS55 — DF/HF/TF are John Deere's own fuel-system suffixes) rather than SDMO's own genset code; don't confuse the two. No public serial-to-build-date formula was found.
