Where to find it: location varies by unit size: 10-13 kW vertical units carry the data tag inside the enclosure door or on the floor under the roof; 17-26 kW units have it on the right panel; 30/35/48 kW units on the back; 80 kW on the left panel; 100 kW on the back — check your specific enclosure if the panel differs.

What the number means

Worked example — 040315-0:

Part	Meaning	Detail
`04`	Product-line prefix	Every Briggs & Stratton standby generator model number starts with 04 — confirmed against our own corpus (e.g. 040220, 040248).
`0315`	Model number	The remaining four digits identify the specific model within the standby generator line.
`-0`	Revision	A 2-character revision suffix. Include it when searching for manuals or ordering parts — the same base model can have multiple revisions with different parts.
