Before you start

  • The dog must be aligned as shown; the gear shift mechanism will not work if the dog is turned the other way round.

Procedure

  1. Oil all components before assembly starts.
  2. Install the seal ring with the spring side inwards; use tool 884679 or a suitable pipe.
  3. Install the eccentric piston, press the pin in and lock with the spring pin.
  4. Put a new O-ring on the gear shift mechanism and install the spring and dog.
  5. Put the mechanism between forwards and neutral; pin should rest in a notch.
  6. Align the dog as shown, or the mechanism will not work.
  7. Undo screw about 2 turns, install the mechanism and check dog position.
  8. Remove the screw and shim, re-tighten until the output shaft cannot turn.
  9. Install one shim at a time until the shaft turns without resistance.
  10. Apply sealant 1141570-0 to the shims and screw, then tighten.
