Before you start

  • Do not clean phosphated cylinder head bolts with a wire brush
  • Replace bolts with cutting marks under the heads or in the threads

Procedure

  1. Clean the cylinder block face and remove rust and carbon from the bolt holes and threads.
  2. Check the cylinder liner height.
  3. Fit the sealing rings and new cylinder head gaskets.
  4. Place the cylinder heads on the block and check the cylinder head bolts.
  5. Immerse the bolts completely in rust-proofing agent 282036; they must be drip-free at assembly.
  6. 100-series: tighten in stages to 20, 100, 200, 320 Nm; 120-series: 50, 150, 190 Nm.
  7. Angle-tighten according to the tightening sequence.
  8. Fit push rods and rocker arm mechanism, adjust the valves and fit the rocker arm casings.
