Before you start

  • When using a Wilbar pipe check the control rod is not in the cold starting position (setting would be wrong by 10-12 degrees)

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the fuel pipe between the fuel filters and the feed pump.
  2. Loosen the front lubricating oil pipe from the injection pump and bend it out slightly.
  3. Remove the socket-head plug and washer so the no. 1 cylinder lifter is visible.
  4. Turn the engine to the compression position for no. 1 cylinder (0 degree mark).
  5. Turn the engine about a 1/4 revolution in the reverse direction; check the lifter is at its lowest.
  6. Fit the tool's screwed sleeve A to the injection pump without washer.
  7. Fit the dial indicator and fixture and set it to zero.
  8. Rotate the flywheel forward until the lift from base diameter is shown; read and compare the flywheel angle.
