Before you start
- Interrupted starts put excessive stress on drivetrain and waste fuel
Procedure
- Operate engine at one-half rated rpm when possible
- Engage driven equipment without load when possible
- Ensure gauges are normal at one-half rated rpm
- Increase engine rpm to rated rpm before load is applied
- Apply load gradually; begin at low load and check gauges frequently
