Magnum MTP4000S — Starting The Pump

Operation · Engine / Pump

For the Magnum MTP4000S, from the Magnum operator's manual.

Applies to: John Deere PE4024TF281 engine

Before you start

  • Never adjust the pump flow by attaching a valve to the intake or outlet side of the pump
  • Avoid running the intake side of the pump dry; air from the intake may cause cavitation

Procedure

  1. Make sure all hose couplings, covers and plugs are tight.
  2. Check the oil level in the sight glasses between engine flywheel and pump volute; level should be in the middle.
  3. Check engine oil level, coolant level and fuel level; make sure starting battery is connected.
  4. Make sure the Emergency Stop switch is pulled out (deactivated).
  5. Push the Engine Start Switch up to the MANUAL START position and wait for the PREHEAT LED to activate glow plugs.
  6. Allow the engine to run until it reaches a constant speed, then adjust speed with the hand throttle.
  7. The pump should self prime and begin to discharge within minutes; if it fails to prime within five minutes, stop and check the suction line.
