Magnum MTP4000S — Pump Set Up

Installation

For the Magnum MTP4000S, from the Magnum operator's manual.

Applies to: John Deere PE4024TF281 engine

Before you start

  • If a manual shutoff valve is installed in the discharge line, it must not be left closed during operation
  • The pump will not prime when dry; extended operation of a dry pump will destroy the seal assembly
  • Never open the priming cover on a pump that is hot or that has been operated recently

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the pump from the tow vehicle, chock the wheels to prevent rolling.
  2. Lower the rear leveling jacks and adjust until the pump is as level as possible.
  3. Attach fittings to intake and outlet openings; ensure gasket/seal is in place and tighten all hardware.
  4. Attach a rigid hose to the intake (suction) side; suction hose/piping should be at least as large as the pump flange.
  5. Attach a rigid intake screen or strainer to the end of the suction hose.
  6. Place the intake hose into the liquid; submergence should be four to five times the pipe diameter.
  7. Attach a flexible hose to the outlet (discharge) side; use a concentric taper to increase discharge diameters.
  8. Check intake and outlet hoses for sharp bends or kinks; intake hose should slope upwards toward the pump.
  9. Fill the pump casing half full with liquid to prime; replace cover and tighten clamp screws hand tight.

Specs & values

  • Intake screen openings must equal four times the area of the intake hose
  • Suction hose submergence 4-5 times the pipe diameter
