Kohler — Service Procedure

For these Kohler models: CV11-16, CV460-465, CV490-495.

Applies to: Kohler Cv460 465, Kohler Cv490 495

Before you start

  • Operating the engine with loose or damaged

Procedure

  1. Run engine for 3-5 minutes to warm it up.
  2. Remove spark plug(s) and air filter from
  3. Rotate the crankshaft until the piston is at top
  4. Install the adapter into the spark plug hole, but
  5. Connect an adequate air source to the tester.
  6. Turn the regulator knob in the increase (clockwise)
  7. Connect
  8. Check your test results against the table below:

Tools required

  • Gauge reading in ‘‘low’’ (green) zone ............................................ Piston rings and
  • perpendicular to both the holding tool and
  • direction until the gauge needle is in the yellow
  • adapter. Note the gauge reading and listen for
  • Gauge reading in ‘‘high’’ (red) zone ............................................... Rings and/or cy
  • Gauge reading in ‘‘moderate’’ (yellow) zone .................................. Engine is still usabl
  • while testing. The holding tool supplied with the
