Kohler 12RES / 8.5RES — Disconnect the Continuous Power Mode Jumper

Before you start

  • Accidental starting can cause severe injury or death.

Procedure

  1. Prevent starting: move master switch to OFF/RESET, disconnect battery charger power, disconnect battery (negative lead first).
  2. Remove the controller: disconnect harness connector P1 (35-pin), and the J15 and J16 connectors.
  3. Remove the controller back cover: note and disconnect the three pink master switch leads, remove cover screws and back cover.
  4. Locate connector P7 near the top; remove the jumper from pins 1 and 2 (connect across pins 2 and 3 for storage if three pins).
  5. Replace the back cover and secure the cover screws.
  6. Reconnect the three pink connectors to the master switch.
  7. Reconnect the J15 and J16 connectors.
  8. Reconnect the battery (negative lead last) and reconnect battery charger power.
  9. Place the generator set master switch in the AUTO position.
