Before you start
- Installations must meet applicable local codes.
- A gas meter upgrade may be required to provide sufficient fuel capacity for the generator and other appliances.
- Fuel line pipe sizes and wire sizes can change depending on distances; see sales associate.
Procedure
- Physically mount generator and transfer switch.
- Mount generator.
- Ground generator with ground rod and ground strap using gravel.
- Bolt transfer switch to wall with hardware and bolt subpanel to wall.
- Pipe fuel to generator; run and connect fuel line to generator.
- Install black iron pipe and flexible fuel line.
- Wire transfer switch to main panel with copper wire, 3 conductor, conduit.
- Wire switch to subpanel and isolate emergency loads to subpanel with 40 amp (8.5RES) or 50 amp (12RES) circuit breaker.
- Wire power leads from generator to switch with copper wire, 3 conductor, conduit.
- Provide wiring for battery charger from a 120 volt outlet.
- Wire DC control wire from generator to switch using conductors and conduit.
