Cummins/Onan — Starting at the Control Panel (Manual Mode)

Operation

From a Cummins/Onan operator's manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Applies to: Cummins/Onan DFBF, Cummins/Onan DFCB, Cummins/Onan DFCC, Cummins/Onan DFCE, Cummins/Onan NT855 engine, Cummins/Onan NTA855 engine

Before you start

  • To clear a Fail to Start shutdown, place the O/Manual/Auto switch in the O position and press the Fault Acknowledge/Reset button. Wait two minutes for the starter motor to cool.

Procedure

  1. Turn the O/Manual/Auto switch to the Manual position.
  2. Press the Manual Run/Stop button to activate the engine control and starting system.
  3. The starter cranks and after a few seconds the engine starts and the starter disconnects.
  4. Warm-up at idle completes if enabled; when coolant reaches operating temperature or warm-up time is reached, the genset ramps to rated speed and voltage.
  5. If the engine does not start, the starter disengages and the control indicates an overcrank shutdown.

Specs & values

  • Default starting: 3 start cycles of 15 seconds cranking and 15 seconds rest
  • Starting cycles configurable 1-7
  • Warm-up at idle time delay 0-300 seconds
