Cummins/Onan — Operating the Day Tank Controller (Fuel Transfer Pump)

Operation · Fuel transfer pump control

From a Cummins/Onan operator's manual — check it applies to your exact model before use.

Applies to: Cummins/Onan DQAD, Cummins/Onan DQAE, Cummins/Onan DQAF, Cummins/Onan QSM11 engine

Before you start

  • Continued operation with a CRITICAL LOW FUEL fault can lead to a low fuel shutdown if the fuel level float switch fails.

Procedure

  1. Press the control ON switch for automatic operation. The green PUMP light comes on and the pump fills the tank.
  2. The tank level is automatically kept between pump-on and pump-off float gauge.
  3. When filling an empty tank, the red CRITICAL LOW FUEL and LOW FUEL lights come on when ON is pressed; this is normal and the lights turn off as the tank fills.
  4. The green PUMP light indicates when the pump is running, coming on and off to maintain proper level.

Specs & values

  • LOW FUEL at approximately 62%
  • HIGH FUEL at approximately 90%
  • Overfill alarm at approximately 90% (fuel truck nozzle shutoff approximately 95%)
