Before you start

Replace armature if winding is grounded or open.

Procedure

Lift or remove all brushes.
Disconnect load circuit wires.
Test DC ground: prod on commutator and on shaft.
Test AC ground and open: prods on collector rings.
Test DC open with growler and steel strip.
