Cummins/Onan 627.20199 — Fit piston rings to cylinder

Before you start

  • No gap directly inline with the piston pin.

Procedure

  1. Place each ring squarely in its cylinder at bottom of travel.
  2. Check ring gap against DIMENSIONS AND CLEARANCES table.
  3. File slightly oversize rings to obtain correct gap.
  4. Install tapered rings with top toward piston head.
  5. Space each ring gap one-third around from preceding one.
