Maintenance

For the Caterpillar C15 Industrial Engine, from the Caterpillar owner's manual.

Applies to: Caterpillar C1.5 engine

Before you start

  • Do not fill the secondary fuel filter with fuel before installing.
  • Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.

Procedure

  1. Stop the engine. Turn the ignition switch to OFF or disconnect the battery. Shut off the fuel supply valve (if equipped).
  2. It may be necessary to relieve residual fuel pressure. Wait one to five minutes until fuel pressure has lowered. Use a suitable container to catch fuel.
  3. Remove the used fuel filter and discard.
  4. Clean the gasket sealing surface of the fuel filter base. Ensure all old gasket is removed.
  5. Apply clean diesel fuel to the new fuel filter gasket.
  6. Install the new fuel filter. Spin onto the base until the gasket contacts the base. Tighten according to instructions on the filter. Do not overtighten.
