Caterpillar C15 Industrial Engine — Engine Valve Rotators - Inspect

Maintenance

For the Caterpillar C15 Industrial Engine, from the Caterpillar owner's manual.

Applies to: Caterpillar C1.5 engine

Before you start

  • A valve rotator which does not operate properly will accelerate valve face and seat wear and shorten valve life.

Procedure

  1. Wear protective glasses or face shield and protective clothing to prevent burns from hot oil or spray.
  2. After the engine valve lash is set, start the engine and operate at low idle.
  3. Observe the top surface of each valve rotator. The rotators should turn slightly when the valves close.
  4. If a valve fails to rotate, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
