Before you start

  • System configuration parameters must be entered before the customer specified parameters are entered, otherwise the Total Tattletale will change.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the ECM is the problem by connecting a test ECM and flash program the identical personality module.
  2. If the test ECM repairs the problem, reconnect the suspect ECM and verify that the problem returns.
  3. Obtain and record customer parameters and customer passwords from the failed ECM.
  4. Record the injector codes from Injector Codes Calibration under the Service menu on Cat ET.
  5. Record ECM lifetime totals.
  6. Temporarily connect the new ECM by connecting both ECM connectors. Do not mount the ECM until timing calibration is performed.
  7. Flash program the personality module into the new ECM if not already installed.
  8. Obtain factory passwords when the passwords are required.
  9. Program the new ECM with FLS, FTS, Engine Serial Number, customer parameters and injector codes.
  10. Calibrate the engine timing via Service, Calibrations, Timing Calibration.
  11. Install the new ECM on the engine.
