Before you start

  • The entire cylinder and crankcase must be thoroughly cleaned after honing; honing grit is highly abrasive.

Procedure

  1. Fasten cylinder to a honing fixture with four crankcase cover screws.
  2. Clamp fixture and cylinder in a vise at a convenient work height.
  3. Place wood block inside cylinder to limit hone travel to 19-25 mm (3/4"-1") below bore.
  4. Place hone in middle of cylinder bore; tighten adjusting knob until stones fit snugly.
  5. Lubricate hone; run drill at 300-700 RPM and 40-60 strokes per minute.
  6. Increase stroke length until hone travels full length of bore.
  7. Check bore frequently with telescoping gauge Tool #19198 and dial caliper Tool #19199.
