ADC-RES Controller Configuration (Cn setting) adjustment

⚠ The controller automatically exits configuration mode without saving changes after about 1 minute if no buttons are pressed.

  1. Enter the configuration mode while the engine is not running by following the Figure 26 sequence.
  2. Step through the parameters to the communication setting Cn parameter.
  3. Use the up and down arrow buttons to change the Cn setting to Cn01, if necessary.
  4. Press to SAVE CHANGES (YES) before exiting the configuration mode.
  5. Move the generator set master switch to OFF/RESET.
Adjust Governed Idle Speed adjustment

Tools: Tachometer

  1. Hold governor lever away from carburetor so throttle lever is against idle speed screw.
  2. Start engine and warm up; adjust screw to approximately 1200 RPM.
  3. Release governor lever and check throttle lever is in idle position.
  4. Turn governed idle adjustment screw to obtain equipment manufacturer recommended idle speed (1500-1800 RPM).
  5. Move throttle lever to wide-open/full throttle and set high speed screw to intended no-load RPM.
Adjust Low Idle Fuel adjustment

⚠ Do not attempt to remove limiter caps.

  1. Place throttle control into idle or slow position; adjust low idle speed to 1200 RPM.
  2. Turn low idle fuel adjusting needle out (counterclockwise) until engine speed decreases (rich); note position.
  3. Turn needle in (clockwise); note position where speed decreases (lean).
  4. Set adjusting needle midway between rich and lean settings.
  5. Repeat for other low idle adjustment needle on two-barrel carburetor.
  6. Recheck/adjust low idle speed to specified setting.
Adjust Low Idle Speed (RPM) adjustment

Tools: Tachometer

  1. Place throttle control into idle or slow position.
  2. Turn low idle speed adjusting screw in or out to obtain 1200 RPM (± 75 RPM).
  3. Check speed using a tachometer.
Carburetor Low Idle Fuel Adjustment adjustment

⚠ Do not attempt to remove limiter caps.

Tools: tachometer

  1. Place throttle control into idle or slow position; adjust low idle speed to 1200 RPM.
  2. Turn low idle fuel adjusting needle out (counterclockwise) until engine speed decreases (rich); note position.
  3. Turn needle in (clockwise) until engine speed decreases (lean); note position.
  4. Set adjusting needle midway between rich and lean settings.
  5. Repeat for other low idle adjustment needle on two-barrel carburetor.
  6. Recheck/adjust low idle speed to specified setting.
Clutch Adjustment (wet disc type) adjustment

⚠ Do not attempt to pry or force spring lock away from ring.

Tools: large screwdriver

  1. Release clutch and remove nameplate. Using a large screwdriver, turn adjusting ring clockwise, one notch at a time, until firm pressure is required to engage clutch.
  2. After adjustment, engage clutch and check that rollers go over center to lock unit in engaged position and prevent releasing under load.
  3. If trouble persists after readjustment, clutch reconditioning is indicated.
Controller Configuration adjustment

⚠ Be sure to save the new settings immediately before exiting the configuration mode; changes are lost if the controller times out (about 1 minute).

  1. Hold the Select button and move the master switch to RUN to enter configuration mode.
  2. Press the down arrow key then the up arrow key 3 times to enter configuration mode (password).
  3. Set the voltage/frequency parameter Uu for the model.
  4. Set the unit configuration parameter Uc (marine, standby, mobile).
  5. Set the engine type parameter Ec.
  6. Press the up arrow at the Adnc display to enter advanced configuration mode.
  7. Set the engine data input type Ed.
  8. Set the battery voltage Bt (12 or 24 VDC).
  9. Set the communications parameter Cn.
  10. Enter save mode and save your settings before exiting.
Determining Camshaft End Play adjustment

Tools: camshaft end play checking tool, feeler gauge

  1. Install shim removed during disassembly onto camshaft.
  2. Position camshaft end play checking tool on camshaft.
  3. Apply pressure on checking tool (pushing camshaft toward crankshaft). Use a feeler gauge to measure camshaft end play between shim spacer and checking tool. End play should be 0.076/0.127 mm (0.003/0.
  4. If end play is not within range, remove checking tool and replace shim as necessary.
  5. Reinstall end play checking tool and recheck end play.
Digital Linear Actuator (DLA) Adjustment adjustment

Tools: Torque wrench

  1. DLA must be in fully retracted position during assembly.
  2. Loosen DLA mounting plate screws located on top of actuator plate.
  3. With throttle linkage centered in U-Clip or secured with retaining clip at end of DLA shaft, slide DLA bracket assembly back until throttle plate is fully open.
  4. Torque mounting plate screws to 2.5 N·m (22 in. lb.).
Frequency Adjustment Procedure adjustment

⚠ Hazardous voltage. Operate the generator set only when all guards and electrical enclosures are in place.

Tools: frequency meter

  1. Open the generator set line circuit breaker.
  2. Attach a frequency meter to the AC output leads.
  3. Start and run the generator set until normal operating temperature (at least 10 minutes).
  4. Use the ADC controller to adjust the electronic governor speed (parameter 4P) for 60 Hz (or 50 Hz).
  5. Check stability with no load; decrease gain (parameter 5P) until stable if speed hunts or surges.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to obtain rated frequency and stable operation.
  7. Save the settings.
  8. Apply rated load and observe frequency; no load and full load frequencies should be within 0.4 Hz of rated.
  9. Check for hunting and surging at full load; increase gain until engine hunts, then decrease in small steps.
  10. Remove the load and observe frequency; repeat step 4 if frequency changed.
Fuel Conversion Procedure (Models with Fuel Block) adjustment

⚠ Explosive fuel vapors. Use extreme care when handling, storing, and using fuels.

  1. Disable genset: master switch OFF, disconnect battery charger, disconnect battery negative lead first.
  2. Turn off fuel supply.
  3. Remove hose clamp and fuel hose from hose fitting in the fuel metering valve.
  4. Remove hose fitting from the natural gas outlet port.
  5. Remove plug from LP port; clean, apply pipe sealant, install plug into natural gas port.
  6. Clean hose fitting, apply pipe sealant, install fitting into LP port.
  7. Slide hose onto fitting and secure with clamp.
  8. For 12 kW models: connect DSAI leads together for natural gas (disconnect for LP).
  9. Connect and turn on new fuel supply; reconnect battery negative last; reconnect battery charger.
  10. Start genset and check for leaks using a gas leak detector.
Fuel Conversion Procedure (natural gas to LP vapor) adjustment

⚠ Do not adjust the factory-sealed fuel-metering adjustments on the fuel block.

⚠ Explosive fuel vapors can cause severe injury or death.

⚠ Accidental starting can cause severe injury or death.

  4. Remove the plug from the LP port, clean it, apply fresh pipe sealant, and install it into the natural gas outlet port.
  5. Clean the hose fitting, apply fresh pipe sealant to the threads, and install it into the LP port.
  6. Slide the hose onto the fitting and secure it with the clamp.
  7. For 12RES only: connect the DSAM leads together for natural gas (disconnect for LP vapor).
  8. Connect and turn on the new fuel supply; recheck the master switch is OFF.
  9. Reconnect the battery (negative lead last) and reconnect battery charger power.
  10. Start the generator set by moving the master switch to RUN and check for leaks with a gas leak detector.
  11. Move the generator set master switch to the AUTO position.
