Procedures
12Adjusting Fan Belt Tension adjustment
⚠ Be sure to stop the engine and remove the key before checking the belt tension.
⚠ Be sure to reinstall the detached safety shield after maintenance or checking.
- Stop the engine and remove the key.
- Apply moderate thumb pressure to belt between pulleys.
- If tension is not as specified, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjust nut to get belt tension within range.
- Tighten up the lock nut.
- Replace fan belt if it is damaged.
Adjusting Valve Clearance adjustment
⚠ Valve clearance must be checked and adjusted when engine is cold.
Tools: Feeler gauge
- Remove the head cover, the glow plugs and the timing window cover.
- Align the 1TC mark line on the flywheel with center of timing window for No. 1 piston.
- Check valve clearance with a feeler gauge.
- Adjust with the adjusting screw if not within factory specification.
- Turn flywheel 6.28 rad (360°) and adjust all other valve clearances.
- Recheck clearance and firmly tighten the lock nut.
Checking Fan Belt Tension adjustment
Tools: Belt tension gauge
- Measure the deflection by depressing the belt halfway between the fan drive pulley and alternator pulley.
- Loosen the alternator mounting screws if not within specification.
- Relocate the alternator to adjust.
Checking Fuel Injection Pressure diagnostic
⚠ Check after making sure nobody stands in the direction the fume goes.
Tools: Nozzle tester
- Set the injection nozzle to a nozzle tester.
- Slowly move the tester handle to measure pressure at which fuel begins jetting out.
- Replace the adjusting washer in the nozzle holder to adjust if out of specification.
Connecting the load (terminal output model) installation
⚠ Connect or disconnect load only when engine is stopped
- Turn OFF the circuit breaker on the control panel.
- Connect the load to the A.C. output terminals.
- Close the terminal cover after connecting the load.
- Secure the cover with the lock bolts.
Air bleeding the fuel system maintenance
⚠ Do not bleed a hot engine as this could cause fuel to spill onto a hot exhaust manifold creating a danger of fire.
- Fill the fuel tank to the fullest extent. Open the fuel filter cock.
- Loosen air vent plug of the fuel filter a few turns.
- Screw back the plug when bubbles do not come up any more.
- Open the air vent plug on top of the fuel injection pump.
- Retighten the plug when bubbles do not come up any more.
Battery Charging maintenance
⚠ DO NOT use or charge the battery if fluid level is below the LOWER mark.
⚠ Keep sparks and flames away from the battery.
Tools: Battery charger, Hydrometer or voltmeter
- Make sure each electrolyte level is to the bottom of vent wells; add distilled water.
- Connect the charger positive terminal to the battery positive terminal, negative to negative.
- Recharge in the normal manner; quick recharging is only for emergencies.
- Recharge the battery as early as possible or battery life will be shortened.
Changing Coolant maintenance
⚠ DO NOT remove the radiator cap while coolant is hot.
⚠ Work only after letting the engine and radiator cool off completely (more than 30 minutes after stopped).
- To drain coolant, always remove both drain plugs and simultaneously open the radiator cap.
- Remove the overflow pipe of the radiator pressure cap to drain the reserve tank.
- Prescribed coolant volume includes reserve tank 0.6 L (0.63 U.S.qts.).
- Fill with clean, fresh water and 50% anti-freeze.
Changing Coolant (L.L.C.) maintenance
⚠ Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot.
- Stop the engine and let cool down.
- Open the water drain plug and remove radiator cap to drain the coolant.
- Close the water drain plug.
- Fill with clean water and anti-freeze until coolant level is just below the port.
- Fill with coolant up to FULL mark on the recovery tank.
- Start and operate the engine for few minutes, stop and let cool.
- Check coolant level of recovery tank and add coolant if necessary.
Changing Engine Oil maintenance
⚠ Be sure to stop the engine before draining engine oil.
⚠ DO NOT drain oil from a hot engine. Allow engine to cool down sufficiently to avoid being burned.
- Change oil after the initial 50 hours of operation and every 100 hours thereafter.
- Remove the drain plug to drain the engine oil; drain completely while warm.
- Inspect drain plug gasket. Replace if damaged.
- Install the oil drain plug and gasket.
- Add new engine oil up to the upper line of the oil level gauge.
Changing Engine Oil Filter Cartridge maintenance
⚠ Over-tightening may cause deformation of the rubber gasket.
⚠ Use only a KUBOTA genuine filter or its equivalent.
Tools: Filter wrench
- Remove the engine oil filter cartridge with the filter wrench.
- Apply engine oil slightly to the rubber gasket of new cartridge.
- Install the new cartridge, screwing it in by hand.
- Add engine oil to proper level after change.
Changing Fuel Filter Element maintenance
⚠ Stop the engine when checking the fuel line; leaking fuel may cause a fire.
- Close the fuel valve.
- Remove the fuel filter element.
- Install the new fuel filter element, screwing it in by hand.
- Check for fuel leak after replacement.
