  • Oil pressure switch failure
    Fix: Refer to OEM engine operator’s manual to identify corrective action.
  • Oil leaking from engine
    Cause: Visually inspect the engine for leaks.
  • Low oil pressure shutdown
    Cause: Low oil level
    Fix: Verify oil level on dipstick. Add oil, if needed.
  • High coolant temperature shutdown
    Cause: Low coolant level
    Fix: Add coolant if needed. Allow engine to cool, then check coolant level in radiator. Restart engine and check coolant temperature. Stop engine immediately if coolant temperature is 210°F (99°C) or more.
  • Generator output incorrect
    Cause: Check the incoming voltage to the ballast by checking the available voltage on the GFCI receptacle. Incoming voltage should be 120V ±5V.
    Fix: If voltage is incorrect, the engine speed may need to be adjusted or generator may require service.
  • Unit cranks, but will not start
    Cause: Fuel level low
    Fix: Check fuel level in tank. Verify fuel pump operation.
  • Unit cranks but does not start

    Fix: Disconnect all loads and restart unit. Read frequency (Hz) in the LCD window on controller. Frequency should read 60 Hz. If frequency is above 60 Hz, engine speed will need to be adjusted. Refer to the engine operator’s manual for throttle adjustment information.
  • Mast lights ON, low light output
    Cause: Fixture and/or lens is dirty Lamp worn due to normal use Damaged or loose electrical connections Generator output incorrect Low transformer output
    Fix: Clean reflective surface inside fixture and both inside and outside surface of glass lens. Use mild soap and water to clean lens. Other chemicals may have an adverse effect on the glass. Replace lamp. Check the mast coil cord, mast junction box and mast light connections. Check the incoming voltage to the ballast. Incoming voltage should be 120V ±5V. If the voltage is incorrect, the engine speed may need to be adjusted or the generator may require service. The voltage from the transformer should read approximately 400VAC as the light “strikes” (induces an arc), then drop and slowly rise back up to stabilize at 240-260VAC. On hard wired models, remove the mast junction box cover and insert the wire probes into the connector blocks for the light and ground. If proper voltage is not achieved, perform capacitor check to determine if the capacitor or coil needs to be replaced.
  • Mast Lights Off, but Ballast Indicators on Control Panel are On
    Cause: Light fixture is too hot
    Fix: Allow light to cool 10-15 minutes before restarting.

Adjusting V-Belt Tension adjustment

⚠ Accidental starting can cause severe personal injury or death

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable(s) to prevent starting and remove belt guard or sound shield door
  2. Loosen alternator pivot bolt first, then adjusting bracket bolt on top
  3. Tighten belt tension by pivoting alternator outwards; apply 20 lb (10 kg) to middle of pulley span
  4. Measure belt deflection, should be 0.4 inch (10 mm); tighten alternator bolts when correct
  5. Secure belt guard/sound shield door and reconnect battery cables (negative last)
Pump Belt Adjustment adjustment

⚠ Accidental starting of the generator set can cause severe personal injury or death; stop the set and disconnect battery cables before maintenance.

⚠ Operation with too much tension on the pump belt may cause reduced belt life; do not overtighten.

  1. Disable the genset by removing the battery cables, negative (-) cable first.
  2. Open the genset service door; on sets without sound shields remove the belt guard.
  3. Loosen the bottom pivot bolt on the alternator.
  4. Loosen the bolt that passes through the long slot in the alternator mounting bracket.
  5. Slide the alternator until the tension is right.
  6. Do not operate the genset without the belt guard in place.
Voltage Adjustment Procedure (Set Not Running) adjustment

⚠ High voltages within the control cabinet can cause severe personal injury or death.

Tools: non-conductive trimpot adjustment tool

  1. Stop the generator set.
  2. Open the control box.
  3. Adjust the trimmer pot a small increment up or down as needed.
  4. Close the control box, start the set and check output voltage.
  5. Repeat starting/stopping and adjusting until output voltage is correct.
Voltage Adjustment Procedure (Set Running) adjustment

⚠ Lethal voltages are present inside the control box.

⚠ Do not wear jewelry or damp clothing; stand on a dry wooden platform or rubber mat.

Tools: voltmeter, non-conductive screwdriver or trimpot adjustment tool

  1. Connect a voltmeter to the set output.
  2. Start the set.
  3. Adjust the trimmer pot to the desired voltage.
Test the PAS diagnostic
  1. Pull the T-handle (valve must be open before testing) OR press the emergency stop button
  2. Confirm valve closed by verifying knob rotated perpendicular to pipe centerline
Fuel System Test installation

⚠ Fuel leakage presents fire and explosion hazards.

  1. After installation, test the fuel system for tightness per USCG specification 33CFR183.542.
  2. Find and correct any leak before putting the fuel system into service.
Installing Coolant Recovery Tank installation
  1. Use the bracket as a template to locate mounting holes.
  2. Allow at least 2 inches (51 mm) from tank top to any upper structure.
  3. Use hose from kit between engine overflow and tank connector.
  4. Route drain tube end to the drip pan to avoid coolant spills to bilge.
  5. Locate tank so hose is pitched slightly downward.
Light Tower Set Up installation

⚠ The mast extends up to 25 ft (7.6 m). Make sure area above the unit is open and clear of overhead wires and obstructions.

  1. For maximum light coverage, locate the unit at ground level or higher than the area being illuminated.
  2. Place the unit on firm, relatively flat ground, then block the wheels to keep it from moving.
  3. Pull the tongue jack locking pin, rotate the jack 90 degrees, replace the pin and raise the trailer tongue off the towing vehicle.
  4. Connect a good earthen ground to the grounding stud on the frame near the trailer tongue.
  5. Pull each outrigger out until the spring loaded locking pin snaps into place; rotate jacks 90 degrees pad down.
  6. Pull the rear jack locking pin and rotate 90 degrees; level all four jacks until firmly in contact with the ground.
  7. Before raising the mast, adjust lamps using the wing nuts on the trunnion, aim, then tighten hardware.
Light Tower Setup installation

⚠ Verify area above unit is clear of overhead wires and obstructions.

⚠ Do not set up the unit if high winds are expected.

  1. Position unit at ground level or higher than the area to be illuminated.
  2. Place unit on firm, relatively flat ground (less than 5° slope); block the wheels.
  3. Pull tongue jack locking pin, rotate jack 90°, install pin, raise trailer tongue.
  4. Ground the unit per NEC, state, and local regulations.
  5. Pull outrigger locking pins, extend outriggers until spring loaded pin snaps; rotate jacks down.
  6. Pull rear jack locking pin and rotate 90° until pin snaps into place.
  7. Adjust all four jacks clockwise until pads firmly contact the ground.
  8. Adjust lamps: loosen trunnion wing nuts, aim, then tighten hardware.
Pre-Start Installation Checks installation

⚠ Oil, coolant, and fuel have been drained from the engine at the factory prior to shipment. Operation without oil and coolant will damage the engine.

  1. Confirm exhaust system secure, correctly routed and connections tight.
  2. Confirm flexible marine exhaust hose section between genset and muffler.
  3. Confirm exhaust outlet terminates away from windows, vents and openings.
  4. Confirm AC generator and load wires securely connected to the correct-size circuit breaker.
  5. Confirm battery cables connected correctly and securely at genset and battery.
  6. Confirm engine coolant (50/50 mix) and crankcase oil have been added to correct levels.
Towing the Unit installation

⚠ Tighten wheel lug nuts after first 50 miles to factory specifications.

  1. Raise the rear jack completely and lock into travel position.
  2. Raise outrigger jacks, swing up into travel position, and slide outriggers in.
  3. Use tongue jack to place trailer on hitch; lock coupling and attach safety chains.
  4. Lubricate grease fittings on the leveling jacks.
  5. Connect trailer wiring and check directional and brake lights.
  6. Verify mast cradle locking pin is in place.
  7. Verify doors and enclosure are properly latched.
  8. Check trailer tire inflation per Specifications.
  9. Tighten wheel lugs in sequence: first pass 20-25 ft-lbs, second 50-60 ft-lbs, third 90-120 ft-lbs.
Battery Care (non maintenance-free battery) maintenance

  4. After cleaning, flush the outside of the battery and surrounding areas with clean water.
  5. Identify the cable as positive (+) or negative (-); always connect the negative (-) cable last.
  6. Maintain electrolyte level by adding distilled water; fill each cell to the split-level marker.
  7. Use a battery hydrometer to check specific gravity of each cell; charge if below 1.215.
  8. Stop charging when electrolyte specific gravity reaches 1.260 at approximately 80 F (27 C).
