FG Wilson Serial & Model Number Guide
Every FG Wilson generator carries a model/serial label. Here is where to find it, what each part of the number means, and how to use it for parts, service and age.
Where to find it: the rating plate, generally affixed to the alternator housing. It carries the model number, serial number, kVA/kW (standby & prime), voltage, phase, frequency and an explicit “Year of Manufacture” field.
What the number means
Worked example — P200-3:

P | Engine brand | P denotes the Perkins engine (not “prime”; prime-vs-standby is a separate field on the rating plate). |
200 | Rating (kVA) | The ~200 kVA power class (e.g. P200 ≈ 200 kVA prime / ~220 kVA standby). |
-3 | Series / generation | Build revision of that class — P200-1/-3/-5/-6 coexist as the model is updated (e.g. for a new engine); it is NOT the phase. |
Using the serial number
The FG Wilson model is the kVA class + series; the serial number on the rating plate (on the alternator housing) is the key to the exact build and engine fitted. You do NOT decode the year from the serial — the rating plate prints an explicit “Year of Manufacture”. Quote model + serial for parts.
