Atlas Copco Serial & Model Number Guide

Every Atlas Copco generator carries a model/serial label. Here is where to find it, what each part of the number means, and how to use it for parts, service and age.

Where to find it: the rating plate on the unit, or the model designation printed on Atlas Copco's own Product Reference Sheet for that model — both carry the full model string, e.g. QAS 250 JD.

What the number means

Worked example — QAS 250 JD:

Part	Meaning	Detail
`QAS`	Product line	Atlas Copco's towable/portable diesel generator line.
`250`	Power class	Approximate prime-power class in kVA — a rounded family designation, not always the literal rated figure (Atlas Copco's own Product Reference Sheet lists the QAS 250 JD's actual prime power as 228 kVA).
`JD`	Engine-brand code	ID = Isuzu Diesel, JD = John Deere, SD = Scania Diesel, VD = Volvo Diesel — confirmed consistently across multiple official Atlas Copco Product Reference Sheets. A further suffix like T4F or iT4 separately denotes EPA Tier 4 Final / interim Tier 4 emissions certification of that engine.

Using the serial number

Quote the full model string (power class + engine-brand code) plus the unit's serial number for parts and service. No public serial-to-build-date formula was found in Atlas Copco's own materials.
