Before you start
- Complete starter tests within 3 to 5 seconds to prevent burning of the coil
Procedure
- Remove the nut and disconnect the lead wire from the magnetic switch terminal.
- Remove the screw, washer and lead wire from terminal 50.
- Remove the 2 through bolts and spring washers and pull out the field frame with armature.
- Remove the felt washer from the rear bearing.
- Remove the 3 screws and remove the starter housing, clutch assembly, return spring, plate washer, bearing and idler gear.
- Remove the steel ball through the clutch shaft hole using a magnetic finger.
- Remove the 2 screws and end cover, then remove the 4 brushes and brush holder.
- Remove the armature from the field frame.
