For the Yamaha EF1000iS / EF2000iS, from the Yamaha owner's manual.

Before you start

Avoid draining the engine oil immediately after stopping the engine; the oil is hot.
Do not tilt the generator when adding engine oil.

Procedure

Place an oil pan under the engine and tilt the generator to drain the oil completely
Place the generator on a level surface
Remove the oil filler cap
Add engine oil to the upper level
Wipe the cover clean and wipe up any spilled oil
Install the oil filler cap
Install the cover and tighten the screws

Recommended engine oil: YAMALUBE 4 (10W-40 Amazon eBay), SAE 10W-30 Amazon eBay $54.99 or 10W-40 Amazon eBay, or SAE #30/#20/10W by temperature
Recommended engine oil grade: API Service SE type or higher
Engine oil quantity: 0.4 L (0.42 US qt, 0.35 Imp qt)
